the long gun sights and scopes forum is for long gun optics... the pistol holster and accessories forum seems most appropriate?

Anyway, I have 10K plus rounds on a M&P CORE with RMR RM01 and it finally ran out of battery at 3.5 years. I replaced with a new battery dated 2021 and since then it's been variably bright. It doesn't flicker on and off but it is really bright then dim then bright then not so bright.

Anyone had this issue? I cleaned the face where the LED shines out and the glass. Anything else I can check?

Battery contacts. Clean them and make sure they touch the battery firmly when assembled.

Some people use a shim, to make sure the battery remains firmly in place, according to multiple internet posts. There are probably tutorials posted, somewhere, for the searching. I have not done this, myself, because my only RMR is dual-illumination, without a battery.

Precisely why I choose the Dual Illumination RMR model without batteries for any "serious purpose" guns. No matter how much you pay for "quality" batteries are always the weak link in battery powered equipment!

You can/will run into tolerance stack-ups with various devices and brands of "coin cell" batteries. Pieces of black electrical tape on the center of the outer side of the cell away from where the contacts are can increase the pressure of the battery on the center connector when everything is closed up. I've had to do this a few times, it does work, just stack up pieces of the tape until the connection is solid.
