Just got this pistol and it's very nice. The trigger in particular is much nicer than the other M&Ps I've tried. It's kind of like a 2-stage military rifle trigger; there's a lot of takeup with very low resistance, then you hit a solid wall that breaks cleanly and crisply at about 4.5 pounds (apparently; I haven't weighed it, but that sounds about right.

The main differences between this pistol and the standard Pro are that the slide has been milled and drilled/tapped for a micro red dot sight such as the Leupold DeltaPoint, Trijicon RMR, or similar, and the sights are raised so you can co-witness with the red dot. This one has an RM01, LED 3.5 moa optic, and the dot is easily visible and about the right size for range work. The dot is pretty crisply defined.

Those who are more familiar with the platform can let me know if there are any other internal or barrel changes from the standard Pro series other than the sights, the provision for the red dot, and the trigger work.

I find it a little strange that they called it "competition" optics ready equipped, because putting an optical sight on a pistol bumps you into "Open" division in any competition I'm aware of, in which case you'll be shooting against real race guns with frame-mounted optics with much larger fields of view. Plus they'll have threaded barrels and/or compensators. In any case, the defensive/tactical handgun world has been sweet on this type of setup for "social work" and I imagine this pistol would do very well in that regard.

Whatever. It's a lot of fun to shoot, and my older friends who have trouble with standard iron sights have been able to do very well with this red dot setup. It's also easy for beginners to start on... just look at the dot and enjoy the very nice trigger. Now if I could just find some more mags.

M&p core

I have one with the J-Point micro red dot. I like the combo a lot. You are so right about mags. I have yet to find any available. Post here if you locate any and I'll order 4 or so.

Couple of people have asked if my barrel has a dimple on the underside. Well, interestingly enough, my barrel has 2, count 'em, TWO dimples. That must mean I'm really awesome. :D

Apparently the 2-dimpled barrels are the latest... if anyone knows the difference between the 1-dimpled and 2-dimpled barrels, let me know. Thanks!

I don't know if I can say for sure if it's round... just that it's clean and well-defined. The RM01 is 3.5MOA and is an LED dot.

Hit 500 rounds through it last night... and I'm getting quicker with the dot. I can see why the open guys all run dots. You can be pretty quick once you get the hang of ignoring the sights.

Really really fun pistol.

Malfunctions so far: I had one FTEject on the third mag (stovepipe, light target load), and at about round 125 my 12 year old daughter had a FTF on the last round in a mag. I don't blame the gun for that; she was likely limp-wristing a bit.

The trigger: I can see why people like the RAM to get a more defined reset. It doesn't really bother me and I can still be pretty quick but I'm probably letting the trigger out further than absolutely necessary between shots. I may try the RAM.
