Just got this pistol and it's very nice. The trigger in particular is much nicer than the other M&Ps I've tried. It's kind of like a 2-stage military rifle trigger; there's a lot of takeup with very low resistance, then you hit a solid wall that breaks cleanly and crisply at about 4.5 pounds (apparently; I haven't weighed it, but that sounds about right.
The main differences between this pistol and the standard Pro are that the slide has been milled and drilled/tapped for a micro red dot sight such as the Leupold DeltaPoint, Trijicon RMR, or similar, and the sights are raised so you can co-witness with the red dot. This one has an RM01, LED 3.5 moa optic, and the dot is easily visible and about the right size for range work. The dot is pretty crisply defined.
Those who are more familiar with the platform can let me know if there are any other internal or barrel changes from the standard Pro series other than the sights, the provision for the red dot, and the trigger work.
I find it a little strange that they called it "competition" optics ready equipped, because putting an optical sight on a pistol bumps you into "Open" division in any competition I'm aware of, in which case you'll be shooting against real race guns with frame-mounted optics with much larger fields of view. Plus they'll have threaded barrels and/or compensators. In any case, the defensive/tactical handgun world has been sweet on this type of setup for "social work" and I imagine this pistol would do very well in that regard.
Whatever. It's a lot of fun to shoot, and my older friends who have trouble with standard iron sights have been able to do very well with this red dot setup. It's also easy for beginners to start on... just look at the dot and enjoy the very nice trigger. Now if I could just find some more mags.
