maybe, but when police response time is 20 minutes for a violent encounter 8am-7pm, and 2 minutes for any encounter outside those times it does explain why my region saw a drop in crime at night. That crime happens in the daytime does not mean that the risk of violent attack is not higher at night.
it became apparent to me that at about 10 PM the sewers open up and the vermin crawl out...if you're out of your home after 9 o clock at night your chances of being involved in a homicide sky rocket.
From your post it sounds like you never go anywhere
Two minutes? Really? Counting from when to when?maybe, but when police response time is 20 minutes for a violent encounter 8am-7pm, and 2 minutes for any encounter outside those times it does explain why my region saw a drop in crime at night.

What are you trying to say that is relevant to the subject?Starting to wonder just where a good deal of the posters to this thread reside. Crime ridden neighbor hoods it seems. Stats vary and are often skewed to reflect the author’s point of view. One I viewed was an index of 46.73 crimes per 100,000 population. An average nation wide in a population of +300 million. In my area I got a better chance of hitting the lottery.
Of course.Point was is that not all areas are crime ridden and unsafe.
And SOMETIMES, folks are traveling and making tracks all day and need something from the C store or Waffle House like food, beer, soda, or whatever. From your post it sounds like you never go anywhere
We live in an "I want what I want" kind of culture. Have you noticed? Reasonable arguments don't matter. I reckon it comes from letting our kids play computer games until their brains turn to Cheez Whiz. Try telling anyone under 40 to settle down and see what you get.
Yeppers, I've known this for a long, long time.
In 1991, R.F. Laird published a book called "The Boomer Bible", the cover of which has one of those holographic images on it, the kind where you tilt it and the image changes. The image on the book is of a hand opening and closing...as in "gimmie-gimmie".
Very apropos of more than just the newest generation.
(By the way...The Boomer Bible is HILARIOUS.)
How does your state handle walking in with a gun past the sign? I had forgotten my doctors office has a no gun sign. I have never paid attention to the thing so forgot it was even there. Here if I pull it out and tell them I have it, or pass out and they find it, they "could" tell me to never come back. So no big deal to me. It's why I forgot the sign was even there.
Now if the state changed it to where if I passed out and they found the gun meant I would wake up in jail? I guess I would do what I do when it go the the office to renew my permit, leave it in the car. Since there they don't just put up a sign they walk you through a metal detector. Any place that wants to sell me something though and puts a sign out saying they don't want my gun is telling me they don't want my money.
I have to work with the "public" and a lot of that public is dopers. So sadly my work is filled with interactions with stupid people. Hardly ever drink any more but man oh man. Some mornings when I come home I need a stiff one to forget the crap from the night beforeStupid places.
Stupid times.
Stupid people.
Stupid things.
I try, as hard as I can, to avoid all of them.
This is a good question, and one we must all be conscience of as people who carry (concealed or otherwise).
Be aware of the jurisdictional laws, especially when you travel as they will vary from place to place. DO NOT violate the law. We do have a choice in the matter, if for no other reason than we simple avoid going to places where such signs are posted.
As for any (private business) place that may put such a sign out...remember, this is the right of private citizens to make this decision, including with their businesses. It's not that "they don't want [your] money", either, because of course they do. It's more of an "I don't want to give you my money".
We make these decisions all the time for a variety of reasons. Maybe we don't buy from (company) because they carry products from certain countries. Maybe we buy our computers from (company) because we've always had outstanding customer service from them. Maybe we don't invest in certain companies in the stock market because they have ties with (abortion, political affiliation, etc.).
In many cases, such signs are not out of any sense of animosity at all...it may simply be a corporate thing that doesn't reflect the local business attitude.
IF you are gassing up when their [pumps are open; but I think the main gist of this thread is things going south at night. If I am traveling and I need gas in an unfamiliar spot, I will wait until the morning when most evil-doers are asleep, or hit a busy, well-lit truckstop or similar.Just to add to this thread, I believe it to be beneficial to gas up at locations that do not have a store available to rob (Sams Club, Costco, etc).
If you can remove yourself from as many possible bad interactions the better you will be.
