I thought we got to that point when people started suggesting colt was superior simply because they started making their rifles first. I do agree though that the things -v- mentions are not really the same at all.
You're right. The manufacturers should protect us from being able to modify our rifles into something that may be illegal. I also propose colt permanently attach a 4 round magazine to their lowers, and also remove the gas tubes from all their rifles, so that we can't make it select fire by grinding the sear or load it with more then the government's prescribed maximum number of rounds in the government prescribed caliber.
You DO realize that the rules were set by ATF, not Colt--or any other manufacturer.
Years ago, SGW and PWA lowers were notorious for the capability for full-auto conversion, quickly and easily. Both before and after the AWB, the manufacturers had to follow ATF guidelines to prevent the lower from easily being modified to select fire or full auto.
The steps include the mods to the lower, different configuration of parts, different composition of parts and other steps.
To the original poster--and, in an attempt to get this back on track--my personal preference is Colt--I believe that that's evident. That being said, buy what fits you best--both in personal preference and in shooting.
