Now I understand snubby pocket carry!

I will also note the many people strongly dislike the MIM revolvers, but I do not share that opinion. I own quality revolvers from both eras.

I like my 625-8. Just a different gun in many ways, lots of MIM. I do prefer the older ones though. About 1990 is my cut off date now when I buy one. I shoot them all.:D

Aren't the H&R .22s considered... cheap? As in not lasting too long?

No. Maybe inexpensive for most models, but all steel. Unfortunately, they are being discovered. Not getting them as cheap as they used to be. I gave my stepson a NEF R92. Still have a Sportsman breaktop that was made in '57 same as my Single Six.

In reference to the "Weak" Phoenix.

Lol, there guns are hardly weak. I have been shooting two of them for a decade and no Problems. NO I do not carry one, but for short barrel/point and shoot training they are great. And they can be damn accurate and only wish more of my expensive 22.cal were as reliable. No they are not stainless steel nor are they built like a tank, but for the money they are fine shooting guns in their class. And many great reviews. Also a Life time Warranty. A fantastic deal for $125.00 or under.
That said, what I do carry are two guns that are built like a tank. And reliable. And I am very safety conscious I have absolutely no fear of carrying these IWB in a clip draw.
Newer 22.cal has been totally reliable, and shooting aguila interceptor felt like a heck of a velocity round with 8 shots coming fast at you.

I am the one that referred to the Pheonix as weak. To me they are weak in the sense that all they are rated to shoot are standard velocity rounds. I would hate to be limited to just those rounds. On the other hand i believe they have a good warrenty and I have read they are reliable and accurate. And they make a 25 auto. But only with the shorter barrel. If they made a 25 ACP with the longer 4" barrel I would be all over that. And even better with switch out barrels for the 25acp.

The H&R revolvers are not weak in any sense. They are not the strongest revolvers but are more than strong enough for the use of full power loads in the rounds they are chambered for. The OP can shoot all the Stingers and in my opinion better Remington Yellow Jackets if he can find any for sale.

I saw one break apart and hit a guy in the face. It knocked his glasses off and put a really nice cut under his eye. The problem was he was using HV ammo which is mostly what's available these days. PA cautions you against using HV ammo. That's their legal defense. Plenty of them have come apart using HV ammo. The guns are entirely cast metal (except the barrel) and not made to the high standards of most every 22 pistol on the market.

A lifetime warranty and free replacement isn't enough to replace my eyesight. There's a reason you can buy a new one for $100. I'll pass.

So if you know not to shoot High Velocity ammo then why on earth are you bringing this fear up to the forum and WHY would you shoot it.. Besides, why would you need High Velocity ammo for a gun like that in the first place? And if I recall, it is HYPER velocity that will ruin the gun not Hi velocity. Regardless, the great feature of this gun is the fact that it will run on standard ammo, even the cheapest out there. I have two of them and thousands of rounds shot down range. I have never had a crack. NO one said they are made to HIGH standards. Lol, they just shoot like it.
I have had 4 Ruger LCP's and they tell you right up front not to us Plus P ammo or high Pressure ammo. So why would someone do it? I shot a round of high Pressure ammo out of one and it cracked the hell out of the grip. I did at the time know it was so hot. Just bulk ammo loaded that way.
You want to put down the gun but do you own one? It is a trainer for God Sake. And where do you get that 22.cal is mostly HIGH VELOCITY THESE DAYS?? By the way, Gun-Test.com a independent test magazine and internet source which does not advertise any products and it compared a number of 22.cals and the Phoenix as they were quoted as "A real surprise was the Phoenix" THEY GAVE IT A "A" Rating.
Ps I know a few guys that have bought a very small size 22.cal for 3 times the cost and they have major problems with reliability. The Phoenix will eat their lunch.
One very nice thing about the Phoenix is the grip and the 1911 style. I love the feel of it and only wish now I had a Sig or Colt 380. It feels great in the hand.

Hey, don't buy a BB gun, you will shoot your eye out kid.

And if I recall, it is HYPER velocity that will ruin the gun not Hi velocity.
  • Subsonic, which also includes "target" or "match" loads, at nominal speeds below 1100 feet (335 meters) per second.
  • Standard-velocity: 1120–1135 feet (340–345 meters) per second.
  • High-velocity: 1200–1310 feet (365–400 meters) per second.
  • Hyper-velocity, or Ultra-velocity: over 1400 feet (425 meters) per second.
PA recommends Std. velocity, not High or Hyper velocity. High velocity will destroy the gun. I saw it happen. YMMV.

Thunderbolt, CCI blazer/stinger and Federal Champion are all HV or UHV. All pretty common just about anywhere 22LR is sold.

Always thought about getting one of those. Most reviews are good as long as you stay in their parameters. I have no problem with standard .22 ammo. Got a few guns made before 1960 that I prefer to shoot standard from. Works just as well for pest control. Guns thought about are H&R Sportsman, Ruger Single Six ( both made in 1957 ), Wards Westernfield 491 (Mossberg 46B, storebranded, '40s), Winchester 1890 ( made in the '30s). I don't like to beat up my older collectors that I use. Older guns are still made for shooting, but with care. I know these guns can handle hotter but I choose to baby them a little, want them to last. Standard rounds kill pests just as well. Also found out that the Standards are a little more accurate in these firearms. So it wouldn't bother me to own one of these, it'll rank almost up there with my NAA Black Widow. Honestly, not even almost, the Black Widow is a pretty finely made rimfire. If it weren't for the reviews I read, I would never consider the HP.
