I am wanting to become an NRA certified instructor (pistol), have read the NRA information on it, and am wanting some information from you guys now. Where do I start, how long does it take, and any recommendations would be great.

The NRA should be able to put you in contact with a Training Counselor in your area. Training Counselors deliver the NRA Instructor Courses and taking the Instructor Course is how you become "certified".

Go to the NRA website Http://www.nrahq.org/education/training/instructor.asp and you will find the information you're looking for.
Taken from that website: "You may request a list of training counselors in your geographic area by contacting the NRA Training Department at 703-267-1430."

Good Luck!!

Be warned it may take a few weeks for the list to arrive. Be patient.

Usually Require you take the Basic Pistol Class First

Most instructors will require you to take a basic class first and then the two day instructor class...Be prepared to make oral presentations  to instructors both days. We took ours in Marion IL

You will have to take a basic instructors class, and then additional classes in the specific disciplines you want to certify in. The NRA is very regimented in how their classes are taught, not always the best way in my opinion, but I think it is worthwhile and have enjoyed getting the certs...

"The NRA is very regimented in how their classes are taught"

I actually appreciate that regimentation. I have only taken one NRA course - Basic Handgun. The instructor was properly certified. I think maybe he was a bit low on experience, though. When he stuck to the syllabus, things went pretty well. However, whenever he added his own commentary, he had a bad habit of giving the class inaccurate information. He told us about bullets rising as they move away from the barrel - a myth specifically addressed as such in the textbook. He also gave us bad information about Virginia concealed carry laws (he claimed it was OK to CC in a place serving alcohol, as long as the CC individual was not imbibing... BUZZ! wrong.)

Once you have found a training counselor in your area, the course of instruction (if I recall correctly) will take three or four half days; that's for basic pistol instructor.

The NRA currently offers two additional pistol courses, Personal Protection in the Home (PPITH), and Personal Protection Outside the Home (PPOTH). Each of these (which I recently completed) require a hard weekend of study, lecture, student teaching and range activities.

Cultivate friends at all of these courses, and plan to work with others in 'team teaching', to present a more polished course.

Don't quit your day job! ;)

I tried last spring to contact some instructors through the NRA's list that they sent me. Many of the numbers were not in service, and some people never returned my calls. I hope you have better luck than I did!
