I have a question for you guys. What is required to become NRA certified in say, the basic handgun course?
And if you are an instructor, how do you use this knowledge, do you put on classes of your own whenever you want or what?

It's not that hard to become a NRA instructor. The first step would be to find a Training Counsellor and take the class of instruction.
There are standards which must be met in order to satisfy the NRA Headquarters from that point you are free to run any class you are certfied to teach by the NRA. You may charge any ammount you want and run as many classes as you wish.
But if you are teaching a NRA class you must follow their guidelines exactly. Insurrance is avaible to Instructors as are many Training aids ,posters and videos ect.
If you are teaching a NRA class you MUST teach NRA policy you are not required to register your students with the NRA but you can if dessired.
Did I mention that you must teach exactly what the NRA company line is.

Good luck and welcome to the rank of instructors if you go further in your quest.

Like Bud said, you take a class from an NRA training counselor. Yes, I give classes whenever I want. Realize, of course, that you must have a place to give them (a classroom and a range that you can use). And there's also the insurance/liability issue.

Yeah, what BudthePrez said. We need more instructors in our community's because it's at the grassroots level where we make a difference. I believe one qualified instructor introducing anti's,fencesitters, and unsafe handlers to proper, safe firearm handling & shooting is worth more then 10 of the magizine ad's from the NRA showing Celebs who say "I'm the NRA". But that's me.
;)
Being a instructor is very rewarding, thought provoking, humbling, and just plain fun. After a while you'll wonder what took you so long.:D

Thanks

I really think it would be a fun thing to do. Not so much for the money but that I want to help introduce people to guns and help them be safe. I like teaching so its something that looks attractive to me.
Thanks for the input.
