Greetings all,

It's been quite a while since I have been here due to relatively limited computer access but I have a question.

I am considering becoming an NRA certified pistol safety instructor and I am not quite sure of the process to get the certification or where in Michigan I would go to be certified. Any help would be great.

I have already taught a "class" to a small group of people for the independent film project I have been involved in for the past year. I was the weapons technical advisor for a 12 part film series called "InZer0", and have returned as the weapons technical advisor for the feature film, "InZer0: Fragile Wings".

The class I taught was a basic pistol and rifle safety course for the main actors in the film. It was also to get the actors familiar with the recoil of actual live firearms since we are using airsoft guns for the film.

Anyway, any help would be great.

Go to the NRA website at www.nra.org and look for info on "Training Counselours." The TC's are the people who train the instructors.

Be aware that the NRA website is *very* out of date. They list TC's who are no longer active and also don't list other TC's who are active. The whole thing can get frustrating. Still, it's the place to start.

The TC who taught my instructor class is no longer in business. I know of one other TC, but I need to check to see if they are still active before I post their info.

You take, and pass, the class in which you want to be certified, and the Basic Instructor's Course. You can take the first class from any NRA instructor certified to teach the class. The Basic Instructor's Course is taught only by a Training Counselor (he can also teach the first class). Check with the NRA training dept for a list of TC's and Instructors in your area.
