Thanks for the info. At least Froman isn't coming out of nowhere: I've heard of her for a while, and it's all been good.

Good luck, Sandy! :)

Whoa! I thought for a sec it was the bikini chick in the Las Vegas ad. :what:

Prolly a good PR move for the NRA. More power to 'em.

Yay for Tucson!

As a longtime Tucson resident, this is going to be great for us to have her aware of Arizona and Tucson legislative issues.

Maybe we'll get CCW in establishments that serve liqour (ie, restaurants) passed in Arizona finally!

The 2004 Friends of the NRA Dinner (which she also attended, too bad I didn't get a chance to talk to her) was a pretty good turn out, here's hoping the 2005 one will spill into the streets!

"The real power at the NRA rests with its salaried CEO, Wayne LaPierre," said Peter Hamm, spokesman for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. "Sandy Froman, as far as we can tell, is the sort of drink-the-Kool-Aid true believer.

Well, I cannot defer to the opinion of the real Kool-Aid masters in RKBA arena. Sugary garbage is all the Bradys have to offer anyone. That, and unmitigated evil of course.

It's amazing to me that another year has come and gone; now it's time to welcome another NRA President.

I've personally heard Mrs. Froman speak at the conventions and she is a "true believer" when it comes to the 2nd Amendment. I shall look forward to seeing her take over in Houston.

I hope to see or read about some of us here on this board being in attendance.

Strange story:

I ate dinner in a bar/pizza place here in Tucson around the university area (called "No Anchovies") that had an incident where a guy got pissed about something, pulled a gun and shot into the seating area (hit a random guy in the knee) before running off. People gave chase and tackled him hard enough to break his nose against the sidewalk. I had left the place a short while earlier, and I wan't carrying because Arizona law prohibits carry in any establishment where alcohol is served for consumption.

I still wonder what would have happened had the timing or the law been different... such crimes are preventable when the good guys are about!

Arizona Daily Star article about the incident

Tejon, the hairy-chested westerners can't handle their hooch as well as the steadfast ploughmen of the prairie. Basically. :) That's one of the things I miss about IN.

Froman faces a tough mission. Say "NRA," and it sparks visceral debates and conjures up certain stereotypes. Gun lovers and sportsmen lionize the group as a defender of Second Amendment rights. Gun control advocates demonize it as an extremist organization.

This is interesting to me since I simply don't see it. The massive bulk of people fall into two catgories: NRA supporters and "Huh?" You want a visceral debate you either go to the lefty media or you find some lefty site online. The "gun control advocates" are so small in number they are literally statistically negligible. The few that exist are backed by Big Money, but when it comes to daily life and debate they just aren't numerous enough to matter.

Tejon, while I'm sure you enjoyed yourself (that night), I trust you didn't find it necessary to fire your Les Baer off in the air until the slide locked back - and then you didn't drive off to buy more ammo and booze. :) That puts you in a different class than many of the folk hereabouts. :(

Sandy Froman, as far as we can tell, is the sort of drink-the-Kool-Aid true believer.

Coming from the Brady Bunch, that's about the highest endorsement you can give an incoming NRA president. :)

I'm hoping she pushes for more shall-issue CCW.
