So what's the deal with these NRA booths at stores, events, etc? I plan on attending an outdoor expo and got a flier stating I can get my membership renewed for $30 instead of $40 and get a shirt if I do it at the show. I have to renew anyways so figured just knock it out there and get a shirt.

My concern is these booths aren't legit and now I'm out $30. Does the NRA pay employees to attend these events and get people to sign up? Just a little concerned cause some of these don't seem legit.

Thank you!

They will generally be staffed by volunteers. I've never heard of anyone being ripped off. You should be making a check out to the NRA. If it is being made out to "Joe Blow" I'd be worried.

Oh I have to write a check? I figured they would have a credit card machine or cash cause I don't do check. When I renew NRA I do it online.

Or call them and upgrade to Life Member. Ask for the easy pay program and discounted price.
I'm not in a financial situation to do that right now. We had some issues around here awhile ago where people were setting up DAV booths asking for donations, etc and it was a scam. I seen an NRA table at a gun show and thought how does the NRA pay someone to do this and how do we know if it goes to the right place. I figured I would sign up at the outdoor show so I could get the t shirt otherwise ill do it online.

There are always NRA booths at the local gun shows. The people manning it are volunteers that are members themselves. They will take cash or a check locally. Never seen them use CC machines though. We man a booth for the local gun club I am a member of, also Gun Owners of Maine and Sportsmans Alliance of Maine are always there as well. We have good people around here and so far the scams have been weeded out.

NRA has recruiters all over the country that will rent a booth at a gun show and other places to sign up and renew members. They definitely aren't doing it for the money. They're paid something like $5 per member/renewal.
Some of the specials they're running:
1 Year - $30
3 year - $60
5 year - $100
Life - $600
I believe you can sign up for extended pay on the Life and pay like $25/quarter.

Well I attended the event today and renewed and was able to use my credit card and scored a free $10 cabelas gift card for renewing also.
