I believe demographics and communication are the two force multipliers we will need to employ in the fight to protect America's freedoms in the future now dawning on us. One demographic I aim to boost is membership in the gun lobbies.

Two questions here:

1. I would like to renew my NRA membership but have lost my membership card. I would like to renew, and not sign up as a new member. I've already tried to contact the NRA about my old membership number, but they haven't responded. Any ideas out there?

2. What are the pros and cons of the three organizations I've listed in the title? I, for one, felt the NRA was just a little too interested in my money and I don't feel Wayne LaP. always has my interests at heart.

P.S. I would like to nominate Clint Eastwood as the next NRA president.

Sorry no idea how to renew your membership. I personally like both GOA and JPFO better because I think they're more aggressive and i like their all or nothing standpoint. However their aggression, particularly of the JPFO can alienate some people I fear. The NRA is great because its large, and it has name recognition which is worth its weight in gold. However I personally think the NRA is willing to make compromises that I would not be comfortable making if it was up to me.

If you want to renew, just wait for the NRA to send you the forms. They will, don't worry. As for the NRA's interest in your money, you're right; they want you to give them some. This is because it takes huge amounts of money to hire lobbyists and lawyers to keep the fight going.

Remember, this is the main reason we gun owners are a relatively strong political voice in Washington--we are willing to put our money where our mouth is. In large measure the Brady Bunch and other gun-haters don't have that passion and commitment. Join any and all pro-gun groups you want, but at a minimum join the NRA.

You're better IMo to go with a local Gun Rights org first and then Id put GOA over the other two you mentioned. Id list NRA last as they are a compromise org.

Is Clint Eastwood actually pro gun? Im gonna have to look that one up. Ive been a huge fan of his forever but I assumed he might have been the Hollywood type to use em in a script but want them taken from the lowly movie goer. heh.

Isn't your member# in the address box on the American Rifleman? At least I thought it was. (I'm at work so I can't check.)

Welcome to the Highroad ReconnaisanceMan.

If you call the NRA, they will look you up. As esq_stu mentioned, your member number should be on the address label of all correspondence.

esq_stu are you in law school?

The NRA and then any state org.
Let's face it, the NRA is the big dog on gun rights. They are the only org that has any direct impact on legislation and the only one the politicians fear.
JPFO just spends its time fear mongering and bad mouthing the NRA so they can get more money.

"seemed the fitting thing to do"

seriously. Holder's confirmation vote got delayed for a week. email your congressmen/women/senators.

man, i hope they ask him about lying under oath last week: http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=N2NmOGNhMDk5NTk3M2ZhZjA1NDhjNWQ5ZmU2YjhkZWQ=

what a tool.

he also misled the panel when he said the "scotus ruled narrowly 5-4 of the individual RKBA" NO, the individual right was 9-0, the 5-4 was on heller.

greaaat an AG who doesn't know the ruling or lies about them, just like 'not knowing' the details of Rich, or lying about it. tool ^2

Reconn...Man - Good for you! And an appropriate "move of the day". The NRA is not perfect, but none of the other gun/2A rights organizations are, either. We just have to work with the those that produce progress, and the NRA is respected by most of those who "live by the vote" of the public.
