NSSF Expels Dicks Sporting Goods

We only have one Dick's in the area, never been there, no reason to darken their door now.

It looks like the NSSF has expelled Dick's Sporting Goods. Good for Them.

Good for them is right! Haven't shopped at a Dick's in many, many years (and then it was only for ammo).

And thanks to their lame brained, boneheaded, misguided CEO:
"We're staunch supporters of the Second Amendment — I'm a gun owner myself," Dick's CEO Ed Stack said
I don't have any reason to ever shop there again!

If you do not shoot, like to play golf, and have kids who play sports or work out at the gym, then Dick's is for you............. They obviously felt that cowering to the soccer moms was a prudent business decision.

The only thing I have purchased at Dicks has been standard velocity 22LR ammo and fishing stuff. Other stores sell most of what I need..

Nice. I bought a couple of great rifles from Dick's between 15 and 20 years ago--a Remington 541T and a 700 VSSF. Since then, I've watched them move further and further away from hunting and shooting. It's too bad, but decisions have consequences. I quit shopping at Dick's years ago, and I say good for the NSSF!

dick’s soon to be a gun free, and profit free, zone. I like to go in their local store and try out stuff, ask questions, try shoes on, ask questions, swing golf clubs in their practice range, try stuff on, ask questions - leave.

You forgot and to pay too much
The Dicks here are way expensive.

On the other hand, I checked out the new ownership Gander Outdoors today.
Store decor was plainer, prices not bad for a chain, and they had lots of non-PC guns, to include assault rifles, snipper riffles, not-exactly-sawn off shotguns, double magazine shotguns, and many pocket rockets.
Did I miss any term of opprobrium for privately owned firearms?

The only "Dick's" near me is actually about 50 miles away in St. Charles, MO. I have been to the Bass Pro shop there twice in the last 5-6 years but didn't like their prices. :barf: I usually go to Graf's up the street from both Dick's and Bass Pro as they have the reloading supplies (mostly powder and bullets) I need. Decent prices there too.

The Gander Mt. store that opened here ~4 years ago closed completely ~14 months ago - with no sign of any changes as the building now had a "For Sale/Lease" banner hanging from the roof.

The plays on the name are old.

As far as I'm concerned, they are free to do as they wish. There are a lot of stores that sell athletic gear, fishing and camping stuff, and gym attire without selling firearms-related merchandise. I guess Dick's wants to join them. After all, it worked out for The Sports Authority, didn't it? Oh, wait...

We have a Bass Pro here to cover the fishing, camping, and firearms needs. I don't "do" any other athletic gear or gym attire.

Dick's has the best selection of fishing gear I've seen in my area.
Then again, I just haven't driven the other way and checked out the Bass Pro yet.

I don’t know how Dicks sister company, Field & Stream, will survive this. Firearms seem to be a huge portion of their business.

I didn't know Field & Stream was a Dicks sister company. I guess I'll never go there again.
Field and Streams was just Dick’s without the golf, tennis and fitness stuff. Basically just hunting, fishing and camping. And large price tags.

RE mom and pop stores: I bought a bunch of guns at Garcia's National Gun in Miami, thinking I should support a local business in spite of the Internet's price advantage. Every time I went in, they treated me like a stranger. I don't know if it was because I wasn't Cuban or what. That's pretty common in Miami. Anyway, after trying another shop (which closed down) I gave up and started buying wherever I got the best deal.

I don't know of any good small shops where I am now. I've seen some tiny places that didn't impress me, and of course, there are some pawn shops. In my area, we have Dick's (I have never shopped there), Rural King, and Gander Outdoors, and if I want to drive 45 minutes, I can shop at Bass Pro.

In Miami, there is a local lumber place that does very well in spite of Home Depot and Lowe's. They give people free popcorn. The place is full of employees who step up and offer to help. They sell types of wood the big stores won't touch. It's always crowded. Mom and pop gun stores could learn from them. If you can't compete on price, you better damn well compete on service. Sitting behind the counter on your big behind like Jabba the Tactical Hutt and waiting for customers to beg for attention is a ticket to bankruptcy.

I'm glad I never shopped at the local Dick's. I bought some socks at a location in another town, but I will avoid them in the future.
