NSSF Expels Dicks Sporting Goods

I usually go to Graf's up the street from both Dick's and Bass Pro as they have the reloading supplies (mostly powder and bullets) I need. Decent prices there too.

The Gander Mt. store that opened here ~4 years ago closed completely ~14 months ago - with no sign of any changes as the building now had a "For Sale/Lease" banner hanging from the roof.

Cool that you live near Graf's! The Gander Mnt. stores in the Houston area (4 of them) also closed down last year.

There are two Dick's stores in the area. I have purchased quite a bit of fishing tackle and bow hunting items there, not that much firearms items but a few things. Will never go there again even if they make a 180 on their stance and start giving things away.

If they want to get out of the shooting/hunting business that is fine but what they are trying to do is take down the rest of us in the process.

Dick's is the nearest sporting goods store to my house. I have purchased a little bit of gun-related stuff from them (CLP-type cleaner and patches when I was out, a little .22lr when they had some in stock during the banic, a soft case or two, a few boxes of shotgun shells). I have bought a heck of a lot more general sporting good material from them (golf balls, a club or two, golf shirts, teva sandals, workout clothes, softball stuff for my daughter, yoga/gym stuff for my wife, a few free weights...). They won't miss my firearm bucks. They may miss my general sporting goods bucks. When they decided to affirmatively lobby to take away some of my rights, they lost all my business, not just the gun-related stuff. It will be a material inconvenience to me to stick to a "never from Dick's" position, but that's where I am.

There is also an"outfitter" around here called Dunkelberger's. They have 2 stores in the Poconos. I have purchased at least 5 firearms from them and numerous handloading and cleaning supplies plus some fishing tackle.

Dunkelberger's isn't taking it to the point of Dick's but has announced that they will not sell some semi-auto firearms to those age 18-21. While they are a bit on the expensive side it is convenient. I will not shop there ever again. There are not enough fly fishermen in the Poconos to make up the difference. And Cabelas is only 30 miles away.

Tell them so. That's the cleanest way to get them to understand the impact of their decisions, and once the quarterly numbers start declining they may remember the conversation and start to add 2 and 2 together.

There is a Dick's not real far from me, but in an area of town I rarely go to. I stopped going there when they would advertise buy one get one half off on ammo years ago but rarely seemed to have any of the ammo that was on sale. Even when it was on sale it was not that great of a deal anyway. After making trips there a few times only to come up dry, I just didn't go back anymore. This was before Obama so there was no ammo crisis to worry about at the time.

They did the same thing to me with a 22 rifle I wanted. Good price advertised but no actual stock in the store.

You can only pull that on me so many times before I decide it is not worth wasting my time anymore.

I find it funny that NSSF kicks out a company that no longer desires to sell firearms.
It's kind of like telling the girl that just dumped you that you won't be taking her to the prom.

A cynic would say that they have chosen to limit themselves in the gun market to appeal to the non-gun part of their customer base, and now want all gun sellers similarly limited. It's as though Chik-Fil-A started lobbying for mandatory Sunday closing for all fast food sellers of chicken products.

I have no problem with Dick's deciding to get out of the gun market, or even a portion of the gun market. No problem with that whatsoever. It's their attempt to curtail rights and force other retailers to do what they have voluntarily done that irritates me. And that's what the NSSF was taking issue with, too, best I can tell.

The only "Dick's" near me is actually about 50 miles away in St. Charles, MO. I have been to the Bass Pro shop there twice in the last 5-6 years but didn't like their prices. :barf: I usually go to Graf's up the street from both Dick's and Bass Pro as they have the reloading supplies (mostly powder and bullets) I need. I live in that area and can't remember the last time I walked into Dick's as they really don't cater to me.

Graf and Sons main store is in the same town as me, plus there is Academy Sports, Bass Pro, and Midway USA all in Columbia Missouri which is about 40-45 minutes from me. I haven’t stepped foot into the Dick’s in Columbia in quite some time and do plan on going back.

Why? The internet can provide you with anything and everything delivered right to your door.

Because the internet requires advance planning. And you can’t try stuff out/on. Brick and mortar is relevant to non-gun sporting goods much more than ammo purchase.
