I have a Uberti 1860 Army. It shot really high out of the box. Had to replace the front sight. Have been looking on the Cabelas site at the 1858 New Army. Trying to decide on the 7.5 or the 5.5 inch barrel. Does it shoot high at 25 yds out of the box? Does anyone own and shoot both? If so, other than using a shorter holster, is there a noticeable difference in the way they shoot? Has anyone tried the target model? Eventually would like to get a conversion cylinder and use it for my sidearm when hunting. ( No Grizzlies or Black bears here)

Let me know

Not sure about the Pietta 58's but I recently purchased an Uberti 58 and it was dead on, out of the box. 22gr of 777, 454 ball and CCI #11. 10 ring at 20 yards. First Uberti that I have. all my other BP revolvers are Pietta.
I like both the Colt and Remington cap and ball replicas. Both patterns have their good points and flaws but without a doubt they are fun to shoot.
Let me know how your new 58 does when you shoot it.

Ive got the target model and it did not shoot high like the colts replicas I have.

I dont have any grizzlies near me so i dont feel underpowered at all carrying
mine out bush especially with a extra cyl preloaded.

No experience with the shorter one, but my 8" Pietta '58 shoots pretty well POA with ~30gr and a .454 ball. The Colt patterns seem to shoot high, but after making a taller front sight the Pietta 1860 Army is now my favorite shooter.

had My 58 remmie with a 5 1/2" barrel for about a month, it seems to shoot well with the sights provided from Pietta.

My 5 1/2 '58 shoots a little low, but it is still my favorite of the two lengths. I strongly suggest the shorter model unless you want to.remain historically accurate. The 5 1/2" model just seems.to carry and point ao much better IMHO.

Y thanks.....
that crudely whacked together board is a double loading stand. Short '58 on one side, long '58 on the other. Looks like the pic was taken before final touches were added, but you get the idea. it makes loading much easier and quicker.

My Pietta 5.5" from Cabela's shot low out of the box, using .451 balls. I tried .454 ball and it shoots right on. However, the 454 fit a bit tighter than I would like and I don't dare use the loading lever on 'em. I must use a loading stand. The .451 shaves a hair of lead ring when loading, the .454 shaves a heavier ring.
