By keeping those evil guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens, no one at the restaurant could offer any defense.

Unarmed Police? Is he disarming the cops now too?

Sad day for New York, too bad they won't place blame where it belongs; on a madman shooter and a mayor that won't allow people to protect themselves.

NEW YORK — A gunman rampaged through a strip of restaurants and bars in a trendy Manhattan neighborhood, killing two unarmed volunteer police officers and a pizzeria employee, the mayor said.

Regular police officers then shot and killed gunman David Gavin, who had bag with a fake beard, two guns and 100 rounds of ammunition, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said early Thursday.

"Tonight was a horrible night for the New York Police Department and for our city," he said. "Two men who volunteered their time to make our city the safest big city in America lost their lives helping to keep it exactly that way."

A neighborhood resident, Tina Lourenko, said she saw the gunman and recognized him as a former employee of the pizzeria. cont.....

Who trained those psudo unarmed cops...

to approach an armed bad guy that was shooting people...........might be a darwin award candidate.....Yep, a CHL would have been real handy there. chris3

Due to the existing laws in NYC, this incident never happened since there are no guns there.............................:banghead:

"Two men who volunteered their time to make our city the safest big city in America lost their lives helping to keep it exactly that way."

Mr. Bloomberg, your city is far from the safest big city in America. It's not even close. It's not even the safest island in the state. If this is indeed your goal, you've got a LOT of work ahead of you.

PS - Love what you did with the milk crates.

Every society deserves the government they got. The morons elected Bloomberg, Nagin, and other creatures that "care for the people". Oh, yeah???

When will they ever learn... that politicos have only ONE desire, to save their own bacon.

Sorry, getting cynical more every year.

Bob:
I heard you guys up in the mountains marry your second cousins up there and fool around on them and then divorce them and marry somone else and fool around on them in publicly humilating manner... no wait I'm thinking of the old New York Mayor

Chasing an armed man while he's shooting wildly, while you yourself are not armed is just plain stupid. Whether it was a lack of training or youthful stupidity, is not the question. It's whether NYC will train current and future auxilary officers not to react in the same manner. If someone there had just had a CCW on their hip, it just might have saved the officers lives. Bloomberg and their kind will never see this incident any other way, it was the guns fault and not the maniac who pulled the trigger. Mike Z

I, for one, have learned from this. Don't go to a gun fight without a gun.
Maybe I could start printing little messages for fortune cookies. Think there is a market for that?

We are all human. We do not always make the right decisions. Our society sensationalizes violence in movies and television. So don't expect a perfect world with imperfect people. I will stay in my Virginia mountains and leave the big city for the civilized people.............

In the video they have of the street, you see the shooter coming back across the street to kill the one cop, and then crossing the street again to kill the second one. It was not a case of the guy just turning around and shooting at people following him.

A sad story, and condolences to the families of the slain officers and pizza employee.
