O/U or S/S for waterfowl?

Alright. So I've finally nailed down the features I'm looking for.

If someone could find me a 12g 3" sxs with double triggers, either removable chokes or permanent somewhere b/w imp mod and cyl, and ejectors, for $400 or less you'll take the cake and be my hero.

If not, I'll sacrifice the ejectors and go with a stevens/savage 311 at the local shop for $299.

ETA: I'm having trouble determining which guns have ejectors on the internet. Would it be correct to assume extractors unless specifically stated? Baikal makes a coach gun meeting my specs, but obviously the barrels are too short. I'd think they'd make one in a 26-30" as well under a different model number.

Sxs o/u

There is no doubt the OU and SXS swing differently (better) than a pump or auto for many reasons. Doubt me? Go to the skeet range and sporting clays ranges. I competitively shoot autos and OUs. The OUs are serious passing bird guns.

Extractors are std unless ejectors are noted. Double triggers are std fair as well. Easy to get use to. I shoot single/double tringers interchangably.

The SXS has fallen out of favor due the rising targets being obstructed by the barrels. Somewhat the same deal on passing shots. Also the OU forearm can be more of standard width and feel. I prefer a good SXS for hunting but this is purely preference; I hunt with American made doubles.

It has been long said that steel shot is hard on doubles causing the barrels to separate and that may be true for the classics. I don't believe it applies to modern, quality guns.

A OU or SXS can make a fine duck gun. The big problems is any of the guns that cost $500 are not going to be really good guns. A good pump (best is the 870 IMO but 2,000,000 from one gun backs up my opinion) can be had for $300 and up. An equal OU would be say a Beretta or Ruger at $1400. Scale the price/quality up and down from there. When you pay for a quality OU, most people don't want to bang them around a duck boat and buy an 870 synthetic and leave the "pretty gun" at home. I do that too.

The Stoeger is about the most reliable affordable import I know of. I know they can be repaired which it the biggest problem with the imports.

I recommend the Ruger OU as a real quality gun and a good price. The stainless would be perfect. Out of you price range. Other than that, buy a Stoeger and beat the hell out it.

Word of caution to all: Once the double barrel bug gets a hold of you, it often won't let go.

Have waterfowled for many years. Bought one of the first 1187SP's when they came out, and it is still a great firearm. The last six years I have hunted with a Fabarm side by side. I really wanted to return to tradition. What a great shotgun. If this is just an itch, scratch it with a cheap sxs. If it's more than that, buy quality. You may find, as I did, that it is the first shotgun out of the safe on opening day. I love sporting clays with it as well. Just my opinion.

Seriously, hooknshootz28, I respect what you're trying to do, per my earlier post.

The 311 in 12 Gauge handles like a sewer pipe on a fencepost. It's REALLY AWFUL, and I'm dead serious, despite my having had a few drinks tonight. Do NOT put down money on one until you've felt how it handles. IMO the Benelli Nova guns, though not lightweight, have excellent balance and handling. They may be "newfangled" plastic guns, but I'd sure rather shoot one of those than a 12 Gauge 311. Benelli knows what they're doing. I do have an old American double, but it's an Ithaca and a 16 Gauge.
