Since you guys were so magnanimous to help me out the other day maybe a lil' help again?
I really don't use a lot of Hornady bullets otherwise I would just get the book.

What is in the Hornady book for these projectiles in 5.56.
Right now I'm at 2.250 oal with a case length of 1.750, and they are just barely in the cannurle so I'm curious as to what Hornady says.

Thanks.

These are what I have been loading for "blaster" loads for a while now. My AR's like them a lot more than 55 fmjs. Like @Shooterbob says, book is 2.229". At the same seating die setting they vary from about 2.225-2.230. That OAL is right on the cannelure if you're wanting to crimp. I didn't notice any accuracy difference setting them out at 2.260, and I like to crimp, so 2.229" it is!

My sentiments exactly.

Just FYI, the Hornady load book has a LOT of good data in it that you can cross reference even if you are not using Hornady bullets. They also have specific sections for service rifle, if you load for gas guns like an AR or M1a. My 2 go-to manuals are the Speer... and the Hornady.

I have not reloaded for 5.56 for longer than I care to remember, opting to buy instead (married, big house, kids, work). Now I have more free time so I'm back at it. Not to date myself too badly, last time I used Accurate 2230 it was made in Israel by IMI and it was awesome stuff. Now I guess it's made in Canada which I assume is Valleyfield but that's just a guess.

Sunny and beautiful today, annnnd.... I have to go somewhere for the afternoon. Tomorrow rain AGAIN so it will be whenever the weather decides to allow me to set up and run the batch of ladder loads I did yesterday.

What the book happens to say is meaningless. Load them to the cannelure, and check vs magazine length to start. You can study COAL when you're working up a load.

AA2230 is still good stuff! It's probably my favorite powder to use with these 62gr FMJ's. I'm curious to hear your results!

I modeled a half dozen different powders and for a 16in barrel, 2230 was the clear choice for me. If it's anything like I remember the old stuff I won't be disappointed.

I choose not to crimp for max accuracy so I look up as much data as I can find and make a WAG somewhere inbetween. Then tweak after load development. I might use a certain length if a large number of loads say one particular combo is most accurate though.

This isn't the first time I've hear that. Once things settle down, and there is actually product on the shelves, I'm going to give AA2230 and TAC a test drive...

TAC is another I modeled, and right up there in the top 3 contenders. 2230 is what I wanted, but it could have easily been that had I found it first.

I've had very good results with TAC and the 62 and 69gr bullets. At least in my gun there seems to be a wide node at 23.5 to 23.8gr... Then I have been very excited with the Benchmark powder.

I haven't gotten to running these 62gr with TAC yet, but AA2230 and Benchmark have been great with them in 16" barrels and a 12.5" as well. I've been playing with these and a lb of h322 I received in a trade, and in my main 16" rifle it's been pretty darn good! I have a feeling I'll get good results with TAC, it just may take a little bit more powder to get there.

Well TAC works a bit better with 55 grainers but it is really good for 62-63 grain bullets as well. TAC and 55 grain bullets go together like PB&J IMO. I have not found anything better.
