Never got away with anything as a kid, remember my mother saying she had eyes in the back of her head and was always watching me. Her uncanny ability to see everything I did had me half believing it. Sadly I didn't inherit that trait.

Last deer season missed a BIG 12 pointer standing behind my tree stand.....kids couldn't understand why I didn't take the shot. Told them never knew it was there. If I'd only had Moms proverbial "eyes in the back of my head" perhaps could have gotten it. We joked a little about old Dad needing rear view mirrors on his tree stand.

This year I did just that. Fabricated some fully adjustable convex mirrors. Maybe I took it a bit too far....but I'm going to give it a try.

Not a novel idea, but still cool.
Years in the past, (20-30) clearing dead fall from snowmobile trails, we would run into tree stands with mirrors off cars that would be mounted in useful positions.

If you shoot over your shoulder using the mirror, I will be impressed.
But we could not call him "Annie", could we.:)

Last year I didn't see a big 9 pointer till he had already walked past me from behind. I had heard him, but assumed it was just the busy squirrel that had me turning my head all morning. Time I got on him with the bow and got him stopped, he went from 10 yards to 30. In my haste I never saw the small branch between him and me and heard the arrow "tink" and carom off into the brush. He jumped, but was so dumb in rut I called him back and he walked around me for a good 45 minutes, but never again gave me a decent shot. I too have been thinking about puttin' up some mirrors. I've got some old motorcycle handle bar mirrors I was thinking about mounting to the stand.

Excellent idea. Perhaps I should have two on my ladder stand covering two different sides behind me. Only problem I can think of would be on a sunny day, depending on mirror position and sun angle the reflections could cause problems. Other than that it sounds like a winner.

I'm in the habit of not moving around much from years of hunting sitting at the base of a tree. Up in a ladder stand it's pretty much the same procedure for me. With a mirror or two I could see more and move less. Like Rembrandt's analogy of them being an early warning device to allow you to reposition. Especially if it's wet and the leaves are silent when deer can sometimes come up behind you before you realize it.
