I've recently had a couple of odd occurences with factory ammo.

Please let me know what odd things you've had happen with factory ammo. And, tell me what you think of these (if anything):

First off, I noticed these wouldn't fit into the chamber of my S&W 617 (22). When I looked closely at them, I couldn't see a difference at first. But when I rolled them between my fingers, I could sense that the bullet was not parallel to the casing. You can see some of that in the photo. FWIW, they'e CCI Standard Velocity 22s. Just so happened that these two came from the same box. Other than this, I've had no problems through about 500 rounds of the same.

The second was something I noticed after firing these using a Python - cracked casings. Didn't check all of the casings closely, but saw this on two of 50 rounds. They also happen to be of CCI make - Blazer 357s. The cartridges were perhaps ten years old, but looked to be in fine shape before firing.

Well - the .22's - that is not too uncommon with the odd round here and there. This stuff is churned out by the millions and so now and again this can occur - not often, been a while since I saw this, other than following a bad feed into gun.

The CCI cases - well they appear to be Blazer with aluminum cases - this is from what I have found somewhat a case of aluminum's very poor ductility remaining, after being drawn to make a case - the crimp also IMO further work hardens the material at case mouth. As these are not suitable for reloading I would not be in least concerned.

Aluminum is brittle. aluminum wheels break instead of bending, cartidge cases crack instead of expanding, and as I found out a couple days ago: distributor housings made of cast aluminum will crack when you tap it with a hammer.
