I have some CCI Blazer aluminum cased ammo and was wondering why it is not used more frequently? It seems cheap (as the same Blazer ammo with brass is more expensive), so wouldn't that be a benefit? I know it can't be reloaded, but most people don't buy factory ammo so they can reload the shells.

I've never had any problems with Blazer or any other aluminum cased ammo. In my experience it tends to stick a bit more in the cylinder of revolvers, but not so bad as to not use it.

If you do not reload it is great. Just make sure you clean your guns. Most of the people I know who have issues with blazer also have cleaning issues.

Nothing wrong with it if it meets your needs, your guns needs and dislikes, and can do the job you require of it. My only observation on them is that if you look closely at the primer, it uses a pre 1900 arangement for setting up the primer, wich is kinda cool in some ways.

I shot a bit of it in 9mm & .45 through a CZ, Sig and Para-Ordnance 1911. Accurate enough and (IMO) cleaner than most budget range ammo.

I love CCI Blazer in my autos. 9mm, .40S&W, 45ACP, no problems at all. Very accurate too.

However, .38 Special caused my S&W Model 28's cylinder to bind. It was when I first got it a few years back and I thought there was something wrong with the gun. I tried some brass cased ammo and it worked like a champ. Since then shooting brass cased ammo, I never had problem one with the gun.

Blazer .357 magnum expanded too much and locked up my Smith 19, but thousands of rounds of .45 and 9mm have gone through my pistols. Does CCI have some kind of patent or marketing rights that makes them the exclusive provider of aluminum-cased ammo?

i have been shooting 1000s of rounds of blazer aluminum a year for several years. i shoot mostly 45acp but also plenty of 38spl, 357mag, 44spl, and 44mag. never had a single ammo related problem with the stuff. i find it accurate as well. it doesnt dirty my guns up as much as lots of other stuff, including wwb.

Blazer Brass in 45 sells for $10 and change at my local wal-mart anyway so I don't even bother with the aluminum stuff.

Over the years I've shot a whole bunch of CCI Blazer in .45, .380, .38, and .357. The only one of the four I'll never touch again was the .38 stuff. Very dirty ammo. The .45 ACP stuff shot and cycled just fine through the Ruger P90, S&W 457, and Glock 30 that I used to have. The .380 runs just fine through my Bersa 83. The .357 stuff is fine, but like others said the cases stick in the cylinder.

If you don't handload then why not? However, if you're buying via mail order you can usually find S&B for less than CCI.

Blaser

Blaser is good for range use but not for carry, at least not in autos. I've had officers show up on the range with guns that had been carried for months with Blaser ammo in the mags. The spring pressure was enough to deform the cases to the point that some of them would not chamber. I don't know if it matters but both guns were Sigs.

9mm Blazer BRASS works fine in everything I've shot, but Blazer ALUMINUM will stovepipe or fail to eject in some autos that are 100% reliable with everything else. Therefore I use it at the range but would never trust it for carry.

Maybe the aluminum cases bulge or are sticky. Or maybe the fact that they're slightly lighter affects the dynamics of the slide.

I have not experienced any problems with the Blazer ammo I have used (mostly 45acp and 357 mag). I do have a friend who purchases ammo for his police department and curses the stuff. Before dropping blazer completely it had "Kaboomed" several of his departments Glock 40 S&W's. From his experience I would not shoot Blazer 40 S&W ammo in any pistol not having a fully supported chamber.

Prior to reloading, I shot 4-5k rounds of 9mm blazer aluminum. My 92fs and G17 loved it, but my G26 didn't for some reason. Its good clean burning ammo. If i ever have to do a pistol class that bans reloads I'll pick up a case again.

I don't like Blazer in .357 Mag because it doesn't have the same feel as Brass Remingtom UMC .357 ammo or other Brass ammo. It feels way too light and doesn't give you the proper feel for full house ammo. When compared to the Remington stuff, it actually feels like .38 Sp +P.
