Recently I've been buying some CCI Blazer Brass besides just the WWB value packs in .40S&W. Per 100 rds its a buck cheaper, no big deal. These rounds are FMJ and as the name implies they have a brass case as opposed to the aluminum.

What I've noticed at the range is that I can see the bullets go down range like they are tracer rounds. I've never noticed this with the WWB FMJ rounds I've used. Has anybody else tried this ammo and noticed the same thing? Is it anything to worry about?

Not haveing used it I would guess Lower velocity . I some times see the bullet travel when I use low power reloads.

I guess I should add that the Blazer Brass is 180gr as oposed to the 165gr WWB. Also, the bullets look like they are glowing red and are very visible in the well lit range. Sort of like a spark that shoots across the range.

CCI uses a plated FMJ bullet, so the whole base of the bullet does reflect light nicely. With low velocity rounds, like 45 ACP 230 grain and 40 S&W 180 grain, I expect it would be easy to watch the bullet travel down range. I have seen it numerous times with the 45 ACP. Really neat watching someone shoot target loads at 50 yards. "POW", watch bullet go down range, "tink" as it hits the target.

I think Stans is right, the shiny copper bottom of the Speer TMJ bullet is reflecting well enough to be seen easily.

You can see about any pistol or low velocity rifle bullet if the light is right. Watching a .45-70 bullet drop into the field of view of a 25x spotting scope as it arcs over its rainbow trajectory toward a 500 metre ram silhouette target is fun. And helpful in spotting shots for the shooter.
