So, I am in one of my fav gunshop yesterday looking at .38s and .357mag revolvers in the used case to see what they have. There are a few I want but when I walked by the case where they have weird and old stuff, usually a BUNCH of expensive Colt SAA's, I notice a very fine looking German made single shot break open target pistol.

I didn't take a pic yet, I am going to buy it.

it is a .22lr, has a beautifully blued barrel, high polished nickel frame, Ivory grip, and a silver end cap on the end of the grip. Looks new but the style is very old, probably 1800s. Looks almost like a French or German Parlor pistol.

Does anyone know who is making these? It had a three letter name on it, on one side of the barerrel, some crowns marked into the barrel and some other markings but didn't have a company name that I saw anywhere.

Has target sights a partially shrouded front and blade rear. has a button on the left side of the frame to open the action and you then have to hand cock the hammer after loading it.

Make sure it really is in fact a .22 RF.

Most if not many of those guns took a 5mm Flobert cartridge that is near impossible to get today.

It does say .22lr on the barrel and the tag....it is new so has to be a replica of an old model. It is really unique and will (I AM SURE) become THE gun everyone asks about and wants to shoot when I go to the range!

Like my .357mag 1894 use to be......

I don't know what it is but I think I want one!

Be sure to post pictures!

Especially after you read what I got it for! I'll post up a range report complete with pics tomorrow or Saturday.

There were some European copies of the Stevens pistols in the 1960s and 1970s.

Yup, and I'm thinking the same thing. One tip-off is the "ivory stocks," that are really plastic. Another is the nickel plated frame, which would be unusual on an older 19th century German pistol.

We will await a picture... :scrutiny:

Most likely it is the HAWES replica of a Stevens.
I bought one at the local Western Auto store back in 1968 as my first pistol. Mine was 22LR, had hooded front sight, a chromed ZAMAK frame, white plastic grips, blued barrel, etc. It accounted for a few close-in groundhogs back in my youth.
I thought of buying another one just for nostalgia...but people want far too much money for these now.
I see a pair on gunbroker right now listed as "dueling pistols"...uh huh....dueling with .22LR?

Pockets, you NAILED it! It IS a Hawes replica of a Stevens 35 target. Here's a pic but the one ( am getting is in better shape and has not been shot. Mine also has Ivory grips not white as in this picture.
