So today I bought a weird Model 1917 - its nickel and has some sort of gold trigger and hammer. It is marked "US Army Model 1917" with serial
"No 67 4XX" on the butt which the internet tells me is a manufacture of June 1918. It does not have the "US PROPERTY" under the barrel or the flaming bomb mark either. It has the Smith and Wesson and the 3 trademarks on top of the barrel. It also has original plain wood grips and the lanyard ring.
I guess what I am trying to figure out is if its a commercial copy or a military revolver that has been messed with by a subsequent purchaser.
Any opinions?
Either way I am very happy as I paid $225.00for it.
