Officer Frame 1911 Suggestions

I like the quality of the forged construction, but I'm worried about the super short barell.

I don't know if worried would be the right word, but I would certainly be concerned about the reliability of any 1911 with a slide/barrel shorter than 4.25" (the original engineers spec'd the Colt Officer's ACP at 3.75" for reliability, Marketing won out with a 3.5" barrel to keep the differences in sizes at .75"). Even Bill Wilson won't warranty the function of a 1911 with a barrel much shorter

The window of reliable function/timing of the 1911 goes down as the slide/barrel goes below 4.25". To maintain reliable function, you need to swap springs more often and be more selective in bullet nose profile

Definitely agree with 9mmepiphany here.
Few months ago I posted an ad online that I was trading my Kahr P9 for any 45acp pistols.
Anyways, in just two days time, I had three people offering to trade their baby1911s. I had been offered a Springfield EMP, Para-ordance, and another Springfield with the ported slide. It was very tempting to trade for these guns so I did a google search and read a lot about reliability issues.
So I wrote back these people and asked them about reliability, and two of them told me that's the reason they are wanting to trade it for my Kahr P9. They had both experienced many FTE and would not choose to carry it.
So here is something to think about. But like I said, I have no first hand experience with these baby 1911s, I have only heard from actual owners.

I would have taken the EMP, their problems have all been minor and easily fixable
