Got the notification after 5 months that it was rejected for a couple of minor issues.
1. Forgot to put "Trust" after the trust name
2. I put AR15 for model instead of ST15 which is stamped on the receiver
3. Forgot the alpha letters before the serial number.

So I got my refund back about a week later and need to resubmit.

Simple mistakes by a noob filing his first form.

Sorry to hear that. But, on an upbeat note, I bet you don't make those mistakes again on #2. :p There WILL be a number two, trust me. And probably a lot more. Welcome to the e-form club!

eForms are taking five months now? Ugh. I've got a couple pending from about about month ago. :(

The real shocking part is you got your refund back so fast. Yep. Screw the form up and you'll get it back.

I agree the first two were simple mistakes, the serial number, not so much.

However, I always cringe when serial "numbers" include non-numeric values, they really should be called serial identifiers.

In any event, good luck with your resubmission if you go that route

How did they know that either were issues?

On a form1, say on a "from scratch" build, it could be anything.and stamped or engraved after the approval came back.

I would ask if they want photos of the "firearm" but that would be a catch 22 if you sent one in for a silencer.

For that matter you are "manufacturing" what ever you are seeking approval for, and can make them whatever you want, that they approve.
I have one "silencer" that has the same serial # as the machine gun it is for. Just two different manufacturers that built them.

Is there more to the story?

If you were creating the firearm yourself, you would have had to put "FMI" in the manufacturer field.

Yes, however.

If you are modifying an existing firearm... While the original manufacturer information is captured, the applicant is the maker and registrant for purposes of the NFA and must mark the firearm.

So you have to change or "mark" regardless just make it match what they approve.

Kind of sounds like they had an incomplete "registry" for the lists to populate from when the op filed?

Will say I have yet to efile a "FM1" all of mine have been tree killers. Also add that when I had a problem with a paper Form1 they called me and returned the form for correction without taking me out of line. Was when they decided "multi" was no longer OK.

I am shocked. My last E-form was screwed up (cant remember why) but Albert Lamberger(?) called me to tell me he was sending it back to me via a paper copy and I needed to make the corrections mentioned and initial. He did and I never lost my place in the line.

OH and wait the other guy said...Yes, there will be more than 1. I am up to nine. My first was about 5 years ago.

They compare it to his Schedule A of his Trust which states a different model.

Happened to a friend recently, I made a thread about it. Mine will likely get denied since the caliber selected was 7.62x39 and it should have been 7.62 :(

EDIT: Just received word back and the ATF said that they have a work around for the 7.62x39 vs 7.62 and my form should be fine. :)

I don't add an item to the Schedule A until it has been approved.

You technically should if it's a form 1 on an existing firearm. If it's not in the Schedule A then you (the Trust you're filing on behalf of) don't own it. But either way, most people list it first.

Even if you didn't, they might know that manufacturer doesn't have an "AR15" model, or that all serial numbers from that manufacturer start with letters and he didn't list it that way.

Directly from the form:

PLEASE RESUBMIT WITH CORRECT TRUST NAME AS APPLICANT. SERIAL # INCOMPLETE. SERIAL # CONTAINS AN ALPHA PREFIX.
PLEASE USE MODEL NAME ENGRAVED ON LOWER RECEIVER. REFUND IN PROCESS.
