Just ordered and purchased a Waffen Werks Bulgarian build AK-74 with the plum furniture and extra mags!

Super excited. Can't believe it's taken me so long to finally succumb to a modern 74. I have a Polish 1960 milled receiver AK-47 but have to say I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on this beauty and getting familiar with the 5.45x39mm.

I have a sneaking feeling it's going right to the top of my favorites. I'm even unloading one of my two ARs to fall to the dark side. Yeah, I'm buying about 3k rounds too. Just for starters. :D:cool:

I'll take a couple pics and give a range report once she comes in (should be able to pick it up tuesday or so).

This is the model I ordered...love love love....

Totally looking forward to it!

congrats, nice ak, I have one as well and I'm not turned on by it like I use to be.

enjoy your toy

If its corrosive ammo have fun cleaning the compensator its a pain to get cleaned. but other wise i love my tantal 5.45 accurate fun and my favorite.
The easiest way to clean your rifle after shooting corrosive ammo:

Step one: pull the bolt out

Step two: throw the entire rifle in the bathtub with hot water.

You will really like your AK 74 although I have no experience with that manufacturer. Mine have all been Romanian or Russian. They really breathe fire man, and they kick the brass (steel) out about 30 feet. How's that for a robust action?

I wouldn't use it on anything much bigger than a coyote, but I guess you didn't buy it for hunting.

Thanks!!! Yeah, I'm super excited about it. Waffen Werks has a really good reputation and apparently the rifles they build are super quality for a good price. The one I ordered has a chrome lined barrel and brake, g2 trigger, and has the gun kote finish. The Bulgarian kits they are using are unissued and all matching number parts kits. Everything I read about them before finally ordering it was really high praise. Can't find any negatives about their rifles at all and that's what really made me settle on this one. I love your collection as well! Really nice!

Theyre addicting, be careful. I'm building my 2nd...

Great, just what I need to hear. LOL! I think I'm going to be pretty set though with the one 7.62x39 milled receiver and now the addition of this plum furniture 74 in 5.45x39. Famous last words though, right?

Wow, that gun was made for the plum furniture

Completely totally agree. When I first started looking at them and getting the bug I was kinda amazed at the plum finish and wasn't sure how I felt about it. After looking at them more and more I completely fell in love with the plum furniture and decided if I was going to get one it HAD to be plum. I mean seriously a plum purple furniture rifle? But it absolutely works on the AK-74. I don't know why or what it is about but I was sold. It just works in my opinion.

I also just ordered a four pack of Russian plum mags with the unissued original carry pouch too. The rifle comes with one mag plus I had the dealer I ordered it from throw in three more. With the Russian plum mags I'll have a cool eight. :D Think I'm probably gonna spring too for an original bayonet. You know, just to have it.

If you get a bayonet, just make sure the range you shoot at will let you run down range and stab the target. I get sub moa with my bayonet.

If you ever get a chance to try out a arsenal 2 stage trigger, I have it in all mine now, I really think its one of the best triggers out there for an AK, G2 is OK too.

P.C. That looks like a hell of a rifle. Where can a guy order one of those?

The story goes that it was the closest dye they could get to black that didn't have softening effects on the polymer (at that time). Since then, things have changed and the newer guns have actual black stocks.

Technically, "furniture" is the term for the metal fittings and such ON the stocks, not the stocks themselves. But it's been used in that incorrect definition so long that it's pretty much changed by default.

Is your compensator welded on at the front? If not they unscrew very easily, just depress the detent and off they come. I just drop mine in a jar of carbon cutter and pull it out when I'm done. Works like a charm.

@ Dunham's through Monday, Romanian WASR, wood furniture or blued

$350, sling, 2-mags, no cleaning-kit in buttstock. Model 10/63, milled action, no bayo. No discount coupon on this one. Carton lists it at $649.99 / $519.99. There is a milled groove on the tip of this barrel, like as for a detent-ball take-off break or suppressor ...... any heads-up on what fits this?? Dao.

A '74 breathes fire? With a solid stock and a real '74 style muzzle brake, a '74 is probably the softest shooting centerfire rifle one can purchase. I jut have a cheapie bulgy '74, and everyone who fires it laughs at how tame it is.

romanian without muzzle brake under a metal roof is loud. Also sometimes on this planet there are literal references and sometimes there are figurative phrases, I am sure you can discern.

IF you don't know how to clean it. When corrosive ammo burns it leaves a salt compound residue. Salt dissolves in water. Clean any rifle shooting corrosive ammo with water first. It's totally simple. Maybe I'm lucky growing up with and shooting black powder first but everyone complains about how hard BP is to clean etc. If you simply flush with water first, dry and then oil you will never have a problem. I've been shooting BP and corrosive WWII ammo for years and as long as you use water first it's absolutely no biggie. I can completely clean and put away most of my BP rifles and pistols in about 15 minutes, flat. I have MANY BP guns that I fire and use all the time and they all pretty much look as good as the day I bought them. I guess I was just taught right from the beginning. Corrosive ammo doesn't even make me blink. I'll buy and use as much as I can get my hands on.

With this rifle I'm buying 3k corrosive rounds right off the bat and I'll buy another 2k in a couple weeks to put away. Wouldn't even think twice about shooting or using corrosive. Then I'll do the same in another 2-3 months.

I REALLY CAN'T WAIT TO GET THIS RIFLE! My wife is excited too as I keep talking up how light recoiling they are. I'm kind afraid she is going to claim it once she shoots it.

Sorry I didn't see your question sooner, I came back to this thread and just now noticed the edit.

I got mine from Andy at the Louisville Patriot Group LLC (easy to google). Great guy to do business with and super helpful and accomodating. He's selling them for $640 and additional Bulgarian mags for $15 a piece. I bought three extra and then ordered four Russian plum mags and pouch from a different company. 8 total now.

Here's a few pics of my new rifle. Please forgive the crappy phone pics but had to post them anyway. The plum stock looks almost black in these pics but it's very noticeable in better light in real life.

Little better close up of the receiver and the KG GunKote which is a super nice finish. Also can see the plum Russian mag.

Here's the new 74 and my Polish 1960 milled receiver AK-47 in 7.62x39

Just a quick comparison of the 5.45x39mm on left and 5.56 on right.
