Hey guys... A buddy of mine gave me what he thought was a long action 7400 magazine.

I took it home and got my dad's 7400 out and put it in. It fit! Yay!

But then I tried taking it out. I'd never shot the gun. I found out the 7400 mags have a lever to remove the magazine on them. This evidently isn't a 7400 magazine. No lever.

Any ideas on how to get it out?

Well, IIRC the 7400's are similar to the older 742's, and therefore, here is a pic of my 742.

You can see the magazine release lever in blue, aft of the magazine well. Whereas the lever on the magazine itself, in red, is used to depress the magazine spring.

Of course, 7400's are probably different, so I most likly just wasted bandwidth...

The magazine might be a aftermarked (non-remington). What is marked on the magazine. I have some 10round magazines that don't have levers on them.

I think the levers were to make loading faster. I have both the old and the newer factory mag.s and the both have levers on them.

The only thing I remember is it said 270 on it...

I will play with it this after noon. I thought the lever in front of the trigger guard was a bolt catch or something.

you have a7600 mag and the little lever to the front of the trigger guard is the mag release, pull it back and firmly tug on the mag and it should pop out.

If what Pete F says doesn't work, and the slide is locked back, pull back on the slide handle a little and try releasing the magazine again. The lever on the magazine is to release the slide after the last shot. The slide should be forward before releasing the magazine.

I really don't have anything to add, I've just never seen a thread that started "Oh Snap". I felt compelled to read it.

Only other time in my life where I've heard that phrase was in the movie Zoolander.

Ok I'm not that old but......

What does "SNAP" mean, I'm fairly certain I haven't heard of it before.
I do posses two college degrees so I is edjumacated.

Similar to that other 4 letter word starting with "S"
With a little more humor and less vitriol in tone, and of course Art's Grammaw doesn'r understand it either........
