This is a BS article. 3D printing is an immature technology that still requires a bunch of skill to make stuff.
yes 3D printers are becoming very affordable. But you can’t just print a gun by pressing a button. Likewise parts to make one fully automatic.
To design parts one has to learn CAD software. Even to print STL files found on the web requires someone to have experience getting a printer setup and printing reliably. A process that takes some time. A process most don’t want to spend time doing.
I know over the last year I’ve been doing 3D printing. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s a cool technology. But it’s just not as easy as the MSM portrays.
I have not watched the video, but I have been 3D printing for several years now. Nothing gun related, mostly models. Dioramas and such, not mine but along these lines.
You can print things like trees, buildings, sand bags, gas cans....really sky is the limit.
It is not hard, yes you do need to fiddle with the printer to get it printing well, and that is really an ongoing process, day to day, and spool to spool. Think of it along the lines of different lots of rimfire ammo, one might shoot great in your rilfe but that same brand of a different lot will not.
I dislike the term "ghost gun", this generally puts an image in someones head of a 3d printed gun, someone gets a file off the internet and prints out a working gun on their printer.....well no. Parts perhaps, but let me tell you things that take any kind of stress is not going to be printed on a 3D printer even if using carbon fiber, barrels and such, just nope.
We just had a shooting at a high school this week, perhaps last week, the shooter a kid is said to have used a ghost gun, if you dig deep enough it is just what we would call a defaced firearm, SN ground off.
Going to try not to get too political, as I think that is a no no here, but keep in mind the source for your information. If you are here you likely see the "news" as a questionable source, they are not questionable on just one topic but ALL topics. Always question, it is your right to ask questions, those that do not want you to question are the ones you need to worry about.
enough of that....
Buy yourself a good 3D printer, you will find it real handy for all kinds of things.
