Stark County residents, today's Repository has an article stating that Stark County Sheriff will be handing out applications from 8am to 3pm Monday through Friday, but will process applications by appointment.

I chanced it that the OPOTC Armed Private Security course would cover the CCW requirements. I've heard from all the officers that I've spoken to that the OPOTC Armed Private Security course would. Because it exedes the minimum hours required and covers handgun safety. Let's hope they are correct.

Lake County [my home] is unknown. But the RINO Sheriff, Daniel Dunlap, has been reported to have followed the usual Brady Bunch MMM ideals of "Dodge City", "Blood in the Streeets", etc, so I suspect the process will be slow.

Sheriff's offices expect rush of concealed-gun applicants

Local sheriffs are bracing for a potential stampede on Thursday when Ohio's new concealed-carry law goes into effect.

"We expect an onslaught initially, but we are hoping it will die down in a few weeks," said Ashtabula County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Howard Shetler.

In Lorain County, the sheriff said he expects lines out the door.

While sheriffs are legally required to start processing the applications this week, some, like the Lake County Sheriff's Office, are asking applicants to make an appointment.

"We are aiming for controlled chaos," said Lake County Sheriff's Chief Deputy William Crosier. "We don't even have the machines to process them yet."

He said deputies from four area sheriff's offices will be trained this week.

Applications are available at most sheriff's offices or at training sites and can be downloaded at www.ag.state.oh.us

In Cuyahoga County, sheriff's officials will not process applications until June when a new computer program is ready.

A spokeswoman for the Ohio attorney general's office said applicants can go to a neighboring sheriff's office if the office in their home county is not ready.

wouldn't that be in violation of the law????? Aren't they required to finish the processing and give you your permit within 45 days??

Also i have a feeling for the first few months we are going to be writing lots of letters to places that decide to limit our freedoms. So we will just have to let them know that we will be limiting our spending to ZERO at their establishments.

After speaking to Hamilton and Clermont counties today, the word is a go!

The OPOTC Armed Private Security course WILL cover the CCW requirements needed to be met in order to apply.

A legible copy of your Firearms Training Certificate must be submitted with your application. The Certificate
must be dated within the last 3 years, contain your name, and the name and a phone contact number of instructor
or location where you received the training. We must have all this information in order to properly verify that the
training fully satisfies the requirements of Ohio law. IF within the past SIX (6) years you have been or were
employed as a peace officer, state trooper, Federal law enforcement officer, active or reserve member of the
military, no additional firearms training program is required, BUT you must provide written verification of your
employment/military service AND documentation reflecting you received firearms training equivalent to Ohio’s
concealed carry training requirements.

The OPOTC Armed Private Security course is a 20 hour course that meets and exceeds the aspects of firearms training and safety given in the 12 hour course. Concealment giuldlines need only be covered through reading and signing the pamphlet provided by the department issuing the permit. GLHF
