Ohio shoot?

Was thinking of a day of shooting (preferably on private land) plus a campout. Anyone interested?

I'm in if it's no earlier than July. I might even be willing to host it, just started renting a farm house on 94 acres of land but I haven't built a backstop yet and I know people hunt there but I don't know how people will react to a lot of people doing a lot of shooting. It's about 40 minutes south of Toledo.

Ya I'm interested if you can give lots of notice. I work every Saturday and my work schedule is posted 6 weeks in advance. I still have 5 weeks of vacation left this year but need to give them some notice.

Sounds good, Ukraine Train. Let us know. :)

If I take back some of the stuff I said about Ohio would you guys mind a Michigan resident joining ya?

BTW, I am a Mud Hens fan. :neener: I'm 40 minutes from the MI/OH border (I-75).

I'm in MI for school til the end of June so it looks like I won't be able to get a backstop built til then possibly, so I can't say anything for sure right now.

If you mean the Lapeer pit then yes, I go there to shoot while here. Williams is closer but you have to pay and can only shoot paper. it's about 40 minutes from Flint where I go to school. I think someone just recently organized a shoot there but I wasn't able to make it.

Columbus also

Hello,

It is good to see I am not the only person who lives in columbus ohio on this board.

I also read and occasionally post on Kim DuToit's Board.

I had raised the thought of having a boomershoot type event in ohio.

I asked at the Delaware Wildlife fireing range and the rangemaster did not have any idea of what I was talking about. They are very much a paper only range and the only inexpensive place to shoot rifles if you don't have your own land a long ways from a city.

I think there used to be quite a few dynamite shoots in the past but with everyone and their cousin suing each other I can see why it is not as common as it used to be.

I see that there is a machine gun shoot in southern ohio but sadly no rifle type event anywhere near columbus that I have found.

If anyone is interested in something like this let me know. I have limited resouces as well as a weird work schedule but I would be willing to put some research and legwork in if it would help.

I'm in if anything comes together. I live in Marysville, so every thing is close.

Btw, lately I have been going to this place... http://www.bwsc.us/ . I'm not much for skeet or trap, but I use the indoor pistol/rifle range a lot. They have no pistol caliber restrictions, (they have S&W .500's for rent in all barrel lengths) and have allowed (I heard) draw from concealment. Hey, they also have pin shoots, and a THR pin team would be kinda fun..

EDIT to add... If we meet up, just because I was hard up for money about a year ago, and had to sell my 1911's, dosn't mean you can laugh at the only three "ottermatics" I have left.

I'm in if I'm in town. I'm up in Bowling Green and don't mind driving if I need to.

Urkrain Train, Let me know when you want to build that back stop and I'll be glad to grab a shovel and help. Depending on where you are, and the schedule, I may be able to get a friend with a tractor to lend it to the cause.

I did some work on it this weekend. It's gonna need to be beefed up, though. I put up a horizontal log about 5' from the ground and then stacked 8' logs vertically on it, three layers of 8" diameter logs. behind all the logs I stood up a steel tractor wheel and behind that is 400 yards of woods. When we tested it out with .30-06 and .308 some of the bullets went through all the logs and through the steel wheel.... So, I need to get some fill dirt, tilt the vertical logs back at an angle and use that as a support for all the dirt. I won't have a free weekend to do it til around July 1, though. Anyone got some dirt they don't need? I don't want to dig up the woods for dirt because I'm renting the property, don't want to do anything permanent.

Firing ranges

Oneslowgun,

I normally use the Powder Room in Powell Ohio for target practice. Their indoor pistol range is ok. They used to have an indoor rifle range but the backdrop broke and they don't have the means to fix it.

They are very inexpensive compared to other ranges in the columbus area.

I also shoot my Yugo(SKS) at the delaware wildlife rifle range. They are also inexpensive though a long drive from where I live in columbus.

One thing that came to mind recently was that firing ranges don't advertise very much. I just recently became aware of the blackwing range due to catching a brief radio ad for it.

I was wondering if anyone has a recent list of firing ranges for locations across the country. I have seen several older lists but none of them listed the blackwing range.

I would be interested in having more options a little closer to home if at all possible.

Briar Rabbit is a good place to shoot but you have to be a member now to shoot the rifle range. This is where I shoot they have berms out to 350yds. They say 400 but my laser range finder says 350.

Blackwing is quite new, it only opened up last October and those range listings usually only get updated onec a year. Deer Creek DNR Range is supposed to be good. Columbus is so anti-gun that you will have to drive a bit to find somewhere to shoot.

I would attend, I am slightly south of Grove City. I drive up to Powder Room every few weeks. No long guns (yet!) but would love to watch, and maybe learn a thing or three.

i'll volunteer my place for a shoot, if anyone is interested in driving this far. i'm about 35 miles due west of cleveland, in lorain county. got a farm out here with a smallish range set up, but if i had company comming i could haul benches down to the field and use a hill and woods for the backstop.

otherwise, i am willing to drive west/centeral ohio since thats where it seems most of you guys are located.

Sounds good, and thanks for the offer. :) Do you have a date in mind?
