I am ordering a new rifle from the Weatherby Custom Shop and the description states a "Walnut, oil finished, stock". My question is do the manufacturer's seal the final coat somehow or can I add another layer of boiled Linseed Oil or Lin-speed oil. Basically how do you treat minor surface scratches. Rifle will not be a safe queen. Thanks.

Hard to say what the Weatherby custom shop uses, or does for the final finish.

Might be a good question to ask them personally.

However, if in fact it is a real oil finish, and they didn't slap 15 coats of silicone wax on top of it during the final polish, you should be able to use Tru-Oil or Lin-Speed on top of it for scratches.
