We lost an election. Do what you gotta do to grieve but get over it. It does not automatically mean the sky will be falling and presenting the image that we are all running around like scared little girls ain't going to do us any good.

Time to start thinking about what it takes to continue the fight for your rights. Don't defame your elected leaders, don't come across as rabid gun nuts. Get out their and start writing letters letting them know what happened in 94 will damn site happen again. Educated your friends, your family, your friends friends etc.

This doesn't mean anything. Don't give them the ammo to make it something. Sweet Jeeebus folks we are supposed to be the fighters so take it on the chin like a man (woman) and get up and do something constructive about it.

Has anybody considered the fact that this could very well make us stronger come 2008?

Enough with the fear and sky is falling there are too many opportunists both politically and economically who will take advantage of it.

This could actually have some great entertainment value.

Nancy Pelosi is the first woman Speaker of the House.

And Hilary isn't.

Speaker is a decent platform for launching a Presidential bid. Hilary wouldn't like that.

I'll make popcorn.

what you mean "we", paleface?

Funny,

I meant, theoretically, gun owners. I realize that we have independents, liberals ,libertarians etc. in our ranks and I realize that many were not thrilled with the republican party, heck I wasn't exactly jumping for joy there either.

My point is lets not lift the sky back up until it actually falls. Stuff happens, move on etc.

Yup I grieved Tue night, and Wed morning. Yesterday afternoon however I decided to cheer myself up by doing something our re-elect Gov would frown upon. I took the AK to the range and proceeded to teraform the floor by building mountians of steel casings :D . When finished with that task I decided I needed a little more ammo and bought a 1,000 round case of 7.62x39mm, and 500 rounds of .40S&W. The .40S&W is for the new S&W Sigma 40 I puchased while I was there. So yes now I feel better :) . Oh BTW anybody notice most places are out of hi-cap AK mags now? I looked online at Impact planning to buy a few more but everything they had listed was out of stock  (except the 10 rounders of course). Guess most folks are fearing the worst.

On thing a very well known Political Scientist pointed out is that now that the Democrats have won control of Congress they have responsibility for a whole host of issues, including Iraq that they have complained about. Since they have made Iraq one of their major issues in this last elections the question is now; what issue are they going to use in 2008, and will it have any traction with the voters? Also consider that if things continue to go poorly in Iraq the Democrats cannot blame the Republicans anymore. This could definitely be a mixed blessing for the Democrats, and in 2008 really hurt them.

Will the 2008 elections matters in 3036?

We don't and can't know.

Neither the question nor the answer makes any sense.

However, history is nothing but a string of individual moments in time, and specific events that have effects that last for all eternity after they happen.

Does John Wilkes' Booth decision to go into the Ford Theater in 1865 have effects that are still lasting in 2006?

Does Constantine's "Edict of Milan" in the late 300s still have effects today?

Do you think the ancient prohibition on the game of football (soccer) in England so that the men and boys could focus on archery practice had any effects lasting for hundreds of years?

Good thread. How about instead of stocking up for the next civil war and hiding out in your foxhole, lets get 50 million in the NRA, buy another 300 million guns in the next two years, and dare them to pass another AWB.

I've pretty much decided that I'll be buying an AR lower and a few hi caps for my CZ75 before the end of the year. Nationally, I don't think we're in much trouble, but we sure as hell are in my state:uhoh:

All presidents who have a sixth year lose big numbers in the House and Senate.

Roosevelt's sixth year in 1938, Democrats lost 71 seats in the House and six in the Senate.
Eisenhower's sixth year in 1958, Republicans lost 47 House seats, 13 in the Senate.
Kennedy/Johnson's sixth year, Democrats lost 47 seats in the House and three in the Senate.
Clinton lost 49 House seats and 9 Senate seats.

I am not saying that I am thrilled with this year's election, I figured that people wouldn't fall for the platitudes of the Left. But this was not a disaster.

Except here in Massachusetts...which went far worse than I ever imagined.

Hillary is in the Senate, she Cant be speaker of the House. She COULD possibly be Senate Majority Leader, we'll just have to wait to see who they elect.

I think we're about to see the court jesters at their best, and hopefully the people that vote will see the baffons for what they really are.

ER - he's talking about a presidential bid.

Great idea. Except it didn't stop the liberals in Congress from passing the AWB when there were 200 million guns floating around in private hands. Why would another 300 million make a difference?

And you can count on Bush signing any anti-gun legislation that this current version of the liberal Congress will send him. Sometimes I think the only difference between Bill Clinton and George W. Bush was Clinton's fondness for cigars. :fire:

What I reckon

Lots of people are writing about the iminent confiscation of all firearms, and so forth. here's what I think: Politicians who are against gun rights, from whichever party, are going to put out their feelers before they do anything drastic. For many of them, this issue isn't personal, it's just a chance to advance their career. Just business. If they think it's a hotbutton issue that will get them a lot of attention and recognition, make people want to vote for them again, etc., well, that's what a representative is for.

This process of putting feelers out, of course, is an ongoing one that never stops. It's like paying attention to the weather-- People might say the "political climate". But right after the election, especially one that's srt of a big shakeup, everyone is going to want to reassess, quickly, and then proceed with whatever plans they come up with.

I personally believe that right now, the next four to six months, is going to be a deciding factor on what does or doesn't get done by the reconfigured legislature. This includes what happens in the news as well as what opinions people voice.

As pertains to guns and gun rights, now would be an excellent time to present ourselves as sane, productive members of society who are involved in the political process and support gun rights. This is equally important for those of us who are represented by candidates with anti-gun records. Remember that you're still part of the public they represent, even if you're not on their side. Write letters, if you're good at that sort of thing, telling them that you're pro-gun and you vote.

I really believe that if a concerted effort of this sort is made by gun owners (who are all across the political spectrum on other issues), it will make unnecessary legislation much less likely to be introduced and supported.
