ok ive been looking at all sorts of pistols

ive narrowed it down to 4

1 springfield xd
2 s&w sigma
3 s&w m&p
4 or a glock 22

all will be in .40 s&w since it gives you a good mag capacity and is a cartridge i already reload

which?!? i know at this point it pretty much comes down to favorites

these 4 all fit my hand well and are in about the same range (except the sigma which is a bit cheaper)

glock will have the most mags and acc. available but the xd comes with a holster and pouch.

how are the xd holsters from the factory?
sigmas are a bit harder to find holsters for
how are acc for the m&p line?

Although the holster is usable with the XD i replaced mine for something better. I chose the Glock but would be perfectly happy with the Xd as I have both and there is very little difference. My Glock has a slightly better trigger. No experience with the others. I don't like an open end holster as I have had snow or sticks get in the barrel while hunting or even scrape on rocks while sitting down.

Have you fired any of these pistols yet?

You should definitely have range time with all of these pistols before you conduct any polling.

ive fired all for

my brother in law has an xd and a glock 22, i rented the m&p at the range and my buddy has a sigma

they were all fun and i really couldnt tell much difference i wasnt a big fan of the sigmas trigger the glock and m&p were best the xd wasnt perfect but wasnt bad

hunter ive never tried a 10mm never knew anyone with one and i know tons with .40s

the reason im gonna get a serpa if i can is just the fact that they are the only holster ive used other than leather cowboy stye holsters

this will be my first centerfire pistol ive got a single six and have fired many many pistols from .22 short up to a .44mag and .454

I'd say ditch the Sigma unless you're liable to starve to death. I'd then suggest that you handle each of them and see which one fits your hand the best and points the best for you.

Glock -- more accessories and replacement parts are everywhere. Don't let the cheapie holster be your deciding factor!

not sure what your criteria is. there's others i find interesting like the Steyr m40-a1 and the Beretta Px4.

I would choose the M&P. The Glock grip gives me fits. The M&P would satisfy me more with it's options, and the fact it's US made. That means something to me. However, the Glock is one excellent pistol and if you went that way you would likely not regret it.

Glock with XD real close in a 40 Cal. Almost a 1. and a 1A.

M&P next.
and the fact it's US made. That means something to me.
Yes and unfortunately that means something to me too. And it ain't good.

Sigma is not really in the same catagory as the others.

how are the xd holsters from the factory?

Go over to the XD forum and you will see that they can cause wear eventually, at least the old ones did. One guy carried his XD9mm in the XD holster and the wear was a perfect line from the holster to the front of the gun.

Frankly the XD stuff in the kit is nice but is not the best to use.

While the Sigma has no votes, I have one (however, its a 9mm), and based on its reliability, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone! Its digested everything from 115 fmjs to 147 JHPs without a hiccup, carries relatively easily, and is easily the cheapest price-wise on the guins you've listed. The people I've talked to that have acutally OWNED Sigmas tend to like them. Most of the naysayers have never handled or owned one of the newer Sigmas from my experience. It seems to be one of those guns that got a bad rep from the get go, and all the imporvements in the world haven't been able to shake its orignal rep. The trigger pull is the biggest downfall, but in reality, is nothing most double-action revolver shooters would ever have an issue with. On a carry gun, I tend to like a trigger pull thats long and deliberate. I DO NOT want a ND is a self-defense scenario. I want it to go bang when I want to, but not a split second before then!!!

Your sub conscience answered it for you.

:D

IMO your #1 posted is your #1 choice!

I own 2, one in .40 and one in 9mm.

Both are good shooting reliable guns.

So I say, Go with the XD!

;)

I'll admit to liking the 9mm S&W Sigma.. Accuracy is fine, trigger is good enough for a carry gun, light weight, 16 rounds in a 4" gun & the price is around $400..

Having fired all four, I can list the Sigma as your choice... if you have no money.

Otherwise, I find the other three to be roughly similar in everything except ergonomics and sight preferences. The grip angle on the Glock is much different from that of the XD or M&P, and the grip on the M&P is less blocky than that of the other two, though to be honest I only noticed it on the Glock. I dislike the goalpost sight picture on the Glock and prefer the Low-mount Novaks on the M&P.

But then, I love the M&P.

So for me:

1. M&P
2. XD
3. Glock
4. Sigma

But really the top three are of similar quality and it really depends on your preferences in ergonomics, safeties, and sights.
