I made my first batch of BP here in Tennessee. I used the same charcoal I had brought from New Mexico. The receipt was the same. The KNO3 was prilled. I milled that for some 48 hours. Some of this came out kinda weird. There was some of it that came out like a "stiff foam?" Sort of like the green stuff they put in a vase to poke flowers in. It broke down with simple pressure and acted like "float". I'm not sure how they prill the stuff? Is it a coating or a way to "pill" the KNO3? Don't know. Anyway, Everything else went the same. I corn, or screen to what I've always used for my cannons. Here's the difference: All other times the BP comes out hard. Very hard. Puck Hard. This new stuff I can crush by hand to powder. It seems as fast and loud. And as smoky. It kinda irks me that there are so few decent empirical methodologies to test BP. But I've always enjoyed sharing with you folks. Thoughts?
