Yow! Fun time! Y'all shoulda been there!

Okay - The Wendinator and I left St. Louis around 9:30 on Friday, and made it to Lebanon, MO before stopping. In the morning, we met up with Arne & Linda (who say hello to the Knob Creek bunch...), and had breakfast and chatted until after noon. We're gonna do a meet/party in the St. Louis area, and also are planning a big time for the fall KCR shoot. Should be fun.

Got to Wyandotte, OK around threeish, and parked the van... Lemme tell you, I wasn't at the birth of the Knob Creek shoots, but this had to have been close... Firing line was about as long as KCR's, but more sparsely populated - maybe half the shooters as at the creek - More breathing room, and you didn't get hit by brass from the guy next to you as much. There were a fair number of spectators, but it was possible to just set out your lawn chairs, etc... Not like KCR where you've got the human sardine experiment next to the firing line. The organizers are planning on removing some trees next to the range, and extending the firing line. They also have plans on adding a moving target system via a trench for future events. Should be fun. There were a few vendors, but more are anticipated in the future. A pole barn is planned to house them.

The range is a lot different from KCR too - It's on a ridge on one side of a valley, and the impact area is on the other side. The place also hosts a _very_ big paintball event - Oklahoma D-Day, with over 3,000 paintballers playing GI and German, and the other hill has paintball pillboxes, trenches, etc., which makes things pretty fun. The organizers went through a lot of tannerite, propane tanks and gasoline, not to mention junk autos... Lots of stuff blowing up, stuff burning, and general mayhem.

The rentals were on the line, so you got to shoot at the same stuff that the big boys were shooting up - LOTS of different choices too. Little cheaper, I think, than the prices at KCR too... Pretty cool. The Wendinator ran some rounds through an AK, complete with big silly grin. I tried out the AK (fun), and then ran several mags through a CAR - Definitely the range to engage targets with bursts out to 400 yards - oh yeah, instead of only 300 yards like KCR, this place goes to 400... Would have been nice to have more close-in targets for subguns, but hey... it was still big silly grin time.

The night shoot was almost as spectacular as at KCR. Lots of flares to illuminate things, and you could actually see the impact area, since the dust from impact stayed on the other side of the valley.

Back at the campground... Hey, lemme tell you about the campground... The week before, the place had hosted the Oklahoma D-Day paintball thingie, those 3,000 paintballers? And 7,000 other folks watching it? They were _nicely_ set up for campers... Nice big FLAT field, with a few choice items of military surplus (including a big ol' junk helicopter) scattered around. They've got water/electric for RVs, and plenty of room otherwise.

Get this: Flush toilets! Showers! Only downside is that the water in the region smells like sulfur. I can live with that.

After the night shoot ended (at 10:30, since the neighbors tend to have a bit of a problem with it...), the campground got busy with late night BBQing and beverages... I think I finally got to bed at around 2:00 - Lots of chatting and general fun.

In the morning, a mess tent was in operation serving breakfast. I may do my own next year tho.

On the way back, we stopped and saw Terri (from FFF), and then hit Bass Pro. Then it was across the northern Ozarks, and back to St. Louis, Misery...

I'm DEFINITELY going next year. You should too!
