These "reporters" need to learn to express what happens more clearly. From the headlines I can picture the bomber being hugged before he got on the plane, not exactly what happened though. To me, a better headline wouold have been "Oklahoma man prevented from boarding plane with bomb".

OKLAHOMA CITY (Reuters) - An Oklahoma man was taken into custody after he tried to carry a bomb on board an airplane on Wednesday in Oklahoma City, an FBI spokesman said.

Charles Alfred Dreyling Jr., 24, was detained on Wednesday morning after a security screener using an X-ray machine saw the device in his luggage as he tried to board a flight to Philadelphia at Will Rogers Airport in Oklahoma City.

"Although the investigation is in its initial stages we have found no apparent connection to any type of terrorist activity or group," FBI spokesman Gary Johnson said.

Johnson said the screener saw an "improvised explosive device" in Dreyling's carry-on luggage.

A woman answering the phone at Dreyling's home on Wednesday night declined to discuss the matter.

Johnson said Dreyling would be charged in federal court on Thursday with possession of an explosive device at an airport.

That was my first thought, too. I was down in Broken Bow, OK, today, and somebody mentioned it. My first comment was "I've boarded airplanes with explosives; any time I go hunting, I have a can of black powder with me." (I'm a flight instructor, recall, and get around in small airplanes; I've been to Broken bow several dozen times, and never once driven.) Her comment was "I didn't think of that; you're probably right," and we proceeded to talk about the sad state of reporting in this country.

Given that this wasnt splashed over the news, I'm guessing this had absolutely nothing to do with terrorism. I vote for tin of blackpowder as well. Did he have a muzzleloader with him or something, or perhaps he was transporting fireworks back from another state?

It was a pipe bomb he'd built for "fun" and forget was in his luggage. Right.

I don't what is worse, this pinhead saying this - or MSNBC running a poll asking readers if they believe his story.

OKLAHOMA CITY - An Oklahoma man told federal investigators he forgot a pipe bomb he built for fun was in his luggage when tried to board an airplane, according to court documents released Thursday.

Charles Alfred Dreyling Jr., 24, was charged Thursday with trying to carry the bomb aboard a Delta Airlines flight from Oklahoma City to Atlanta on Wednesday, according to the documents.

Dreyling was released Thursday on $10,000 bail. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

FBI agents and Oklahoma City police officers said the pipe bomb contained a metal cartridge filled with gunpowder attached to a detonator made from model rocket parts, according to an affidavit filed by the FBI.

Dreyling, a student at the University of Oklahoma, could have detonated the bomb using his cell phone battery, according to the affidavit.

Dreyling told investigators he made bombs for recreation and had recently set off several devices with friends in rural Oklahoma, according to the affidavit.

Here's why. He didn't have any method set up (cell phone battery *rolleyes*) to set off the bomb.

A CO2 container, black powder, and a rocket igniter. Brings back memories.


And a 100' spool of wire and a car battery is a lot safer than lighting a match nearby.

This kid was just stupid and grabed his messin-around-bag.

How many of us have had a LIVE ROUND confiscated because we grabed our shooting bag?! (that's more of a bomb than what this kid had, as a live round has an actual contact-explosive primer.)
