Yeah, if you're talking break barrel .22 air rifles, they sure get big. Here's mine next to my daughter's .22 LR repeater. Williams aperture on the air rifle, old style red dot on the pink gun. (Old photo, set up of the pink gun has changed.)

I have an even older red-dot on my .22 Hornet. It's shorter than that, and twice as big around. But it still works.

My first red dot was a 30 something millimeter "fat and short" BSA optic. Gotta start somewhere.
