Lyman GPR is a much better rifle from every standpoint.
Better lock, better triggers, better barrel, more authentic stock design.
Buy one & yule never look back.
This, of course, is my humble opinion.

The CVA MR is the grand daddy of the GPR, it was the inspiration for the creation of the Great Plains Rifle.

I'm partial to the Mountain Rifles but both are excellent and known as tack drivers. The MRs are long out of production officially, but can be had by Deer Creek Products. Both are based on originals despite the fact that folks constantly claim that they are not historically accurate.

The CVA offerings are a bit slimmer and about a pound lighter. The Flintlock Investarms GPR is superior to the old CVA lock. Percussion locks and triggers are better with the Lyman offering but not enough to prefer it over the CVA.

the first thing that a rock lock needs is a good frizzen and flint. you can have all the bells and whisles on your rifle, but with out that frizzen and flint all you have is a walking stick. eastbank.

If comparing cap guns, there's not a lot of difference other than the obvious outside measurements etc. They'll both shoot quite well.
The flintlocks were quite different the Lyman frizzen was properly hardened and timed. The CVA not so much..

Thanks everyone for info. I am originally interest in cap lock but now the Great plain rifle flint lock seems a bit more fun.

The cva mtn rifle was the best production round ball gun made. The Lyman has nicer finish.. cva did not have the best flintlocks, neither did Lyman and tc was worse. The cva was available in a Big bore 58 cal. The cva guns still bring more than their retail 20 years ago when cva stupidly stopped selling sidelocks.
