Old dirty brass

I would polish using ground corn cobs and if the cases are not corroded use them.
Personally I do not use ceramic or stainless media as the accumulated lead would poze a health hazard. I purchase either ground corn cobs or ground walnut shells from the per suplly store and discard the media when it begins to turn grey - it's cheap enough.

I have a bunch of 50/50 walnut/corn cob that was given to me a while back. I like the 50/50 mix but when it runs out I think I'm going back to straight corn cob as my cleaning media.

I don't tumble with stainless media, but from pictures I have seen, that is the "best" for producing a highly polished surface.
It's the best for cleaning the inside of cases and primer pockets. But it pales in comparison to corn cob for final polishing. Stainless pins leave relatively bigger scratches on the brass. If you ever leave your corn cob tumbler on overnight, put on the shades. Factory new ammo never looked so good.

If you guy's were to use only one media would it be corn cob or walnut shell? I have some dark tarnished brass that i need to clean up and need an opinion on which media to get. I don't need a super high polish, but if i am going to tumble it i would like it to look like brass.

I haven't seen it mentioned, but you can get walnut and corn cob media in big bags at the pet store. (Look in the lizard care section.) Don't go buy $12 in a plastic jug when you can get 5X that much for about $6.

Hope this helps.
