Old Taurus 5 screw in 32 S&W long

I just picked up an old Taurus 5 screw, 3" barrel, nickel finish in 32 long at my local shop for $149. Condition is about 90%. I'm very pleased with how this revolver cleaned up, with a little flitz and some tlc, this is a good looking old revolver. My digital camera is out of commission now, so I'll have to post pics at a later date.

I picked up a couple of boxes of Fiocci 32 long 100 grain wad cutters, and headed out to the range. First of all, I was very pleased with the accuracy of the revolver. As expected, the mild wadcutters produced almost no recoil, much like that of a .22. The trigger was not as nice as a Smith, but smooth and broke cleanly. All in all it was a fun range session, and I would probably get another revolver in 32 long if presented the opportunity. While not a serious defensive weapon, This revolver will put the rounds where you want them and it's a lot of fun to shoot.

At $12.99 a box, fiocci wadcutters are not cheap. Can .32 ACP be used in this revolver? I know .32 acp is rimmed, and given the low pressure of the round it seems to me it would be safe to shoot in a revolver chambered in 32 S&W long. I know there are some really knowlegeable folks on this board, so before I go out and blow my hand off tomorrow I thought it would be prudent to ask this question.

.32 ACP is semi-rimmed and if I believe many on this board it should be just fine to shoot it in your Taurus. I have a Taurus 731 in .32 H&R magnum but have not tried the ACP rounds myself - yet - but plan on it.

I mainly shoot the .32 S&W longs in my .32 as they are cheaper than the magnum ammo. The last time I purchased from Natchez they were a little over $8 a box of 50 delivered. Although that hasn't been all that long ago I suspect it has gone up - like most ammo.

I also suspect that your gun could be re-chambered for the .32 Magnum if you desire to do so in the future. ( Check with a local Smith ).

Good buy I think - I would have grabbed that in a heartbeat as well.

You and some other board members were correct rivrat. The .32 ACP functioned fine and was quite accurate. This revolver is fun to shoot!

I took my old Taurus 5 screw 32 long out to the range again today with some more .32 acp and master cartridge 32 s&W long in the red and white box. Man, what a fun shooter! I wonder if there's a way to find a DOB on this old revolver. The Taurus website provides a way to check by inputting the SN to obtain a DOB. There's a number to call, as it states that with old revolvers the DOB may not be available by just providing a serial number. Calling Taurus scares the holy crap out of me, since I've had first hand knowlege in dealing with Taurus' famed customer service. I'd be surprised if Taurus could give me any useful info at all, so I think I'll just settle for guessing on the DOB.

If anyone on this board can guess at the DOB on an old 3" nickel 5 screw Taurus in cal. .32 long, please let me know.

Again, a really fun to shoot old revolver, the best $149 I've spent in a while.
