Found this Flintlock pistol and brought it home with me today. My first flintlock and know nothing about it other than the guy said he built it from a kit over 20 years ago...

Only markings I could find were "SPAIN" on the barrel and lock, then numbers on the barrel...any input would be appreciated...
Paul

I think it was made by Jukars in Spain. As member hawg wrote they were imported in the U.S.A. by CVA, sometime in the '70s. Believe they also made a Kentucky Long Rifle as well and both came in kit form.

Man, i wish I could find muzzleloaders locally.
They are not regulated . You can order one from a dealer like Dixie Gun Works and they ship to your door .
I did a google search on Black Powder Rifle Dealers ...to get some mail order names and on the search 4 local gun shops came up on a map , in my town that sold muzzel loaders . Cabela's does also and Midway USA , Midsouth and Traditions Firearms .
Do some google-foo and search the net ... there should be at least one local dealer in El Paso ...
If not ...just mail order what you want while it's still legal .
I recently ordered a reproduction 1862 36 Cal. Colt Pocket Police cap and ball revolver from Traditions Firearms and it was delivered to my house with no problems ! It's going to be my new "Carry Gun" !!!

I had one of those many years ago,
I took it to a local club shoot and got talked into a match between several black powder pistols and several smokeless pistols. It was their range.
Surprised me when they called my name as the winner.
They shoot very good.

My only hang up is the lock tumbler is not supported, it appears to be an early CVA with the little adjustment screw in the tumbler. I would try the frizzen before heat treatment and see how it sparks. As the Hawg said it may be soft, but try it first. One can case harden it for a temporary fix.

I took the lock apart and did my normal polish and OCD stuff, greased the parts that might wear, was trying to figure out a way to support that tumbler better, ended up just greasing the rub area, I like the look of the lock so I don't really want to upgrade it...yet... I ran a file across the frizzen and it seems very hard, flints from Track of the Wolf come in later in week, also ordered some stuff from Deer Creek, screws, trigger, front sight and stuff while it was still in stock. More than likely I'll get it shooting decent and then look for upgraded parts or someone that can repair/upgrade the tumbler, Last week I didn't even know "or care" what a Frizzen was  and its not in my spell checker either, keep wanting to change it to Frizzell...

I built one of those. Having no intention of ever firing it I went to considerable work dressing up the wood work, adding brass inlays I made, and doing some wire work on it. I also built their percussion mountain pistol in 50 caliber and did some extra work on it with the intention of shooting it. It makes a BIG boom and a lot of smoke.

I'm not sure a guy could upgrade the lock to a supported tumbler without buying a whole different lock. Might be best to just use it as is until it gives you trouble and replace it with a better one at that time.

The single shot pistols usually are accurate, hard to screw up a short section of rifle barrel. My Plains Pistol is a tack-driver for sure.

The items I ordered came in which included flints, did some brass cleaning and adjustments to the hammer, went ahead and ordered a new frizzen, the old one works fine,, but when I was polishing it up I noticed that the years of dry firing it had gouged the face pretty good (it spent its life as a wall hanger before I bought it) . It shoots off instantly it seems, surprised me how well and fast the charge went off. Used 3f in tray and barrel.
