First post guys so be kind. I have a friend's dad who wants to sell me a mossberg 12ga for 250. It was shot one then never fired again. He bought in 1999 and should there be anything to worry about(recalls)? Or is there something valuable about the older gun? Any info would be helpful.

Mossbergs are basically utility shotguns. They don't get more valuable with age - just older. :D

And 1999 isn't old in shotgun years. No Mossberg recalls I can recall, nothing I know of to worry about in that regard. Long as the gun is in good condition, of course.

How much can you get a new Mossberg shotgun for? Used gun prices vary somewhat in different regions, I don't know what a good used 500 would bring in your area.

Agreed that it being "older" does not equate to more valuable. This is very common shotgun made for decades by Mossberg. It is tough and reliable but certainly not a rare collectors item. It probably cost him $250 or less brand new in 1999. I would imagine you could find a comparable new pump shotgun for slightly more than that brand new or used for less.

Used here in Mississippi about the same price. We have a lot of hunters and shooters. I plan to leave this one loaded as the HD gun. Plus I am helping his dad out with buying this gun. I have already a really nice Remington 20gauge with wood and checkering that my grandmother got me for christmas(26 or 28 barrel i cant remember). So all need is a 12gauge to complete my needs. I would rather give my money to a friend than a store. In all thank y'all so much for the help and I value all the input I recieved. Also, Go Rebels!
