My boss is wanting to sell me a .357 revolver for $200 bucks and I have a few general questions about it..I havent even seen it yet so i cant even say what condition it is in other then he had a gunsmith look at it and it was in great working order but has dings in it from being used.My first question is that it comes with a gun belt and handcuffs "without key" i was curious can i get a key for the cuffs on the net.And is it even legal to have them. The belt also has a baton "spelling" holder and i would like to get a baton to put it in the belt..Is this ok to do.I dont see why it wouldnt but just want to ask before i buy this ..

All that would be AOK in my state. I don't know about Oregon though I believe it's fine...

Check your laws - anyone from there happen to know?

A good supplier to get keys and batons from is Galls. Thier site: http://www.galls.com/

There are some good surplus cop revolvers out there. I've had several Security Sixes and currently use a Smith Model 13. They are all very well made and real "sleeper" revolvers.

$200.00 is a decent price for a good, used .357 revolver.

Send me an email and I can send you a cuff key.

Another question would be what kind of cuffs? If they are a standard model like Peerless or S&W there are standard keys that will work, but they might be an off brand or "novelty" that doesn't use the standard cuff keys.

He was going to bring it to me today but he has to finish building his shop :(..He said he will bring it to me tomorrow and Im sure i will have some questions about the gun.I dont even know anything about it.I will post some pictures and ask.You guys are great.

I got it today and it defenetly has some use, scratches here and there..It is a .357 HIghway Patrolman Smith and Wesson 28-2.It came with a belt with pistol holserter,2 speed loaders and S&W cuffs.Im wondering if there is anything i can do with the scratches Or is it just better to leave it alone..I can post pictures if needed.I like how heavy it is im betting recoil will be managable..Thanks for any info or suggestions.

S&W 28

I think you got a good deal. Great revolvers. Will handle the .357 loads well.
Shoot the heck out of it. Others can give you tips on the scratches or you can send it back to the factory to have the whole revolver redone back to original specs and condition,. 28-2's are going for over $ 300.00 almost everywhere these days. Enjoy.

28-2

the guys at the smith and wesson forum would be drooling over it I expect!
sounds like you have a good deal there. and as stated you can have the factory re-do it for you.

If i was to send it to S&W would they need some proof of purchase or anything like that.I bought it from my Boss who bought it from his brother who bought it form "Who knows"..Thanks for the info guys.

it would be nice to see the pictures if you don't mind posting... i sure would like to find a 200 dollar offer like that.

Im on my lunch break and will do it when i get home tonight..I will take pics of the speed loaders, cuffs, belt. And revolver..I cant wait till i shoot it :)..It has some where on it but it should be fun still.

I have the worst digital camera and dont know how to use it yet so the pics arnt that good but here is everying exept the speed loaders and they say HKS on them..

Clean it up, get some touch-up blue, some black dye for the leather, and put it to use. That gun is the equivalent of a brand new car that just got it's first scratch or dent, so now you can drive ( use ) it without worrying.

Looks like honest holster and carry wear to me, and not that bad. It's also one of S&W's value line guns from back before they called them that. Now go finish breaking it in.

Sending it back to S&W would cost about $200 for a reblue. You got one with a pinned barrel and recessed cylinder chambers that they later stopped doing. My 4" is unpinned and not recessed, but has a little more blue on it than yours. So big deal. The S&W Model 27 is the Caddy, the Model 28 is the Chevy truck. Take it out and have fun with it.

You got quite a bargain, usually a model 28 goes for $300-350 now-a-days. and that's for the revolver alone. From your picture your 28 looks like it has some holster wear, no big deal. Enjoy your find!

Is there anyway i can tell when it was made..Only numbers i see are N911xx

and 432xx

I put xx's in the last 2 numbers because i have seen other people do that and i have no idea if its good to post all the numbers :) ..Thanks guys.

Congrats on the STEAL,

Your gun was made in 1981. The model 28 is like the Mack Truck of 357s.
You should be able to shoot the snot out of it with no worries.

Needless to say, if you ever want to get rid of it yada, yada, yada.

Enjoy,
Bob
