I was over at the benchrest range sighting in my relatively new M1 Garand and I was commenting to one of the other shooters that it seems like the B/R range is usually picked clean of any extra brass since there was nothing on the ground but some surplus Mosin casings. As I was packing up to leave I decided to walk over to the plinking area because I had heard a bunch of people blasting away over there. I wasn't expecting to see much, but it was my lucky day because I picked up 96 pieces of 30-06 and 9 en bloc clips. I got a little 45ACP and some 223 as well but I left most of the rest to someone who needed it. There was even a little 30 WSM on the ground, but I don't shoot that caliber.

I understand why nonreloaders would leave the 30-06 brass, but why would you leave the en bloc clips? they are getting pretty hard to come by.

I haven't picked up that much free 30-06 in quite a while, if ever.

That's 12 clip loads of ammo, so you may have missed three clips. Obviously shot by someone brand new to the M1, who got his ammo already packed on clips, and didn't realize they're reloadable.
BTW, the CMP now has brand new enbloc clips for the Garand for sale in the estore online, stamped CMP. They're selling for $20 for 25 clips.

I guess this is varies by location, because at the last local Dallas show, I could have bought as many as I wanted, from multiple tables. If only I had a garand to use with them... :D
