I have had several culls on cameras this year and was hoping to get them out of the gene pool. This afternoon I crawled into one of my blinds about 4:00 and got my chair adjusted so I could pull my bow without hitting my elbow on the blind. No more than placed an arrow on the string and there he was, broadside at 20 yards. Had just enough time to hook my release and draw before he stopped. I don't even remember hitting the release, but the shot was perfect. I gathered up my gear and hiked back to my Yamaha. Went to another spot and dropped off a ladder stand and then went to check out the blood trail. It was probably 30 yards before I found blood. Whoever said that deer go downhill when hurt didn't tell this one. He went up a 30 degree grade for about 60-70 yards. The Muzzy had gone through both shoulders and was under the hide on the offside. Broke my lucky arrow that had taken a doe on the second day of season. Glad to get this one. He looks like he might be out of a cull that I killed 2 years ago.

Neat rack. Was he injured previously or is this genetic?
I haven't checked his back legs yet, but didn't notice anything when we skinned it. I'll take a closer look when we cut him up. He is ageing the cooler right now. I really think that it is genetic. I shot a buck that was very similar 2 or 3 years ago. I also have 2 big bucks, a 9 and 11 pt, that have eye guards (G1's) that curl forward.
