One Eye or Two? Handgun Shooting

Always use two eyes.

If you shoot "for accuracy" with one eye, that's going to be your default mode. When the chips are down and you're getting tunnel vision anyway, you're going to close one eye and cut your already reduced vision in half. Not good. Shoot with both eyes.

Unless I lapse into past habits, I shoot with both eyes open. My dominant eye has no trouble holding the sight picture.

Both eyes unless I'm using a scoped 2x or more rifle.
Ditto. I can't use 2 eyes with a conventional scope. But I like using a scout scope with both eyes open. Iron sights--both eyes.

I think the majority will tell you close up and defensive, both eyes open...further away precision shots close one eye. This is what my instructor told me as well. He also said to do whatever the hell works best for you.

Both eyes.

As noted above, if you close one eye you lose depth perception. Everything goes 2 dimensional. You also lose a substantial amount of your field of vision using only one eye.

I'm cross-dominant, right-handed, strong left eyed dominant. I shoot shotgun with the Magic Dot over my left eye. Rifle I shoot left eye closed. Pistol I shoot right-handed, two eyes open, sights lined up with my dominant left eye. I kind of shift my head to the right a bit to get the gun lined up. I'm working on bringing the gun up consistantly so that everything's lined up automatically.

Wow, this is new to me. Majority shoot with both.

I've been shooting my handgun with one eye: Dominant right eye. I'm a right handed shooter.

Looks like I'm going to try something new.

But when I aim with both eyes, the gun becomes two.

You always train for self defense situations w/ both eyes open so you know what's going on around you....this applies to firearms too ;)

Always two eyes. I just found out (ok had concerns for a while) I have a cataract in my right eye.
I can still use a scope as the cross hairs are (superimposed) from the view in my (good) eye.
There is also a good reason you fire some with weak hand as well.
