ONE good all around pistol

I have some really nice 1911s but if I had to choose one semi-auto for all around use it would be one of my SIG P220 variants, probably the Combat model.

But it's difficult to keep up with your constantly changing parameters and implausible scenarios.

The parameters have never changed. Your interpretation of them has though. From the OP - So here's my question, if you had to choose one, and ONLY ONE, semi automatic pistol for everything, what would it be? A pistol that can be used for home and self defense. A pistol that can be concealed for every day carry. A pistol that you can use for hiking, walking the back forty and hunting(everything from elephant to squirrel,(ie; survival food)) with. The same pistol can also be used as a range gun, a truck gun and a competition gun. And of course, a plinkin' gun. - That Never changed. The same premise is still there.

You really want one pistol to carry concealed, home defense, hunt, take to Alaska, and take to Africa?

Yup.

We all know this is a question that will NEVER have a "right" answer. It is an almost impossible question to answer with a correct answer. There just isn't one. What feels comfortable to me, won't feel comfortable for you. What you can carry and shoot with, I can't. David E, I think you are reading more into the question than is really there.

As I stated before, I have SD/HD guns, and concealed carry pistols, and plinkin' pistols, and range toys, and just plain Fun guns. Just not an everything pistol. Meaning, I have a handgun for most, if not all situations. I just don't have one pistol for all situations.

And I do like the idea of the Sig combat model.

An AK pistol in 7.62x39. While an elephant would be highly inadvisable to hunt with that round, I bet it has been done by poachers and soldiers in Africa at least a few times.

Odd, even in the reposting of the OP, not a word about African plains or the cold Alaskan wilderness.

If I ignore some of the sillier "concerns," the best gun for ME is either a 1911 (.22 to .308 capable) or a Glock 20-SF with extra barrels and conversion kits.

I stand by Glock 29 as coming the closest. We seem to be assuming the person reloads, so 10mm becomes reasonable when it would otherwise be too niche of a cartridge. Good combination of readily concealable + good capacity + not too shabby for hunting.

You guys need to shift your paradigms. In the Alaskan and African portions of this scenario, the purpose of the handgun isn't to kill the dangerous wildlife. It is to give yourself a quicker, more painless death than being mauled, trampled, gored, or eaten alive. With that in mind, I think you will find a wider range of pistols are suitable than you previously believed. ;)
Lol best response

What about "everything" doesn't cover EVERYTHING?

And I'll take your recommendation of the 1911 with multiple conversions into consideration. As well as Warp's G29 recommendation, and quite a few others.

And on that note we'll close this one before the interpersonal disagreements get any more heated.
