What's your best arguements against "one gun a month" legislation? Thanks in advance.

They are going to require us to buy one gun a month?
Now THAT'S some legislation I can get behind....

Sign me up!!!

You should only be allowed to buy 100 books per month. I mean anyone who would buy more is just trying to distribute propaganda or is up to no good.

One bottle of hard liquor or one case of beer per week.

That is more than enough for someone's personal use. Anyone that wants more is obviously buying it for someone who can't aquire it legally themselves, and who will get drunk and kill someone with a car.

One pack of cigarettes per day....

I don't buy one gun a month on average. However after several (or more) months of buying nothing I may hit a streak and by two or more. Opportunity is where and when you find it.

The idea behind this according to the anti-folks is that no one needs more then one gun a month. That's from their perspective, and presumes that all handguns are weapons, which is far from the truth. Such a limit they say, will stop criminals and terrorists (don't forget them) from buying massive numbers of guns at once. They seem to presume that criminals will play by the rules, and this makes as much sense as saying a school is a Gun Free Zone, and posting a sign to that effect, will stop nut-jobs from shooting up them up.

Basically what they want too do is limit legal buyers to one gun a month, and then one gun each six months, and then ....

Quite frankly, anti-gunners' are very fuzzy between the ears.

If the Democratic party is seriously interested at pushing one-gun-a-month, then they need to really get behind the working class they claim to represent and subsidize it.

See now you are making progress.

We need some kind of government agency to run this and make sure we all get our .gov provided one gun a month, kinda like the cheese thing.

Maybe this is a good use for BATFE going forward?

Actually, I think the idea is to curb straw purchases. Example: gangbangers send someone in with a clean record to buy 20 cheap handguns.. Guy walks out of gun shop with 20 guns and now the entire gang is armed. I think there was a case where some guy legally bought like 200 HiPoints and then took them to NYC to sell illegally on the street. Only takes a couple idiots to ruin it for everyone :(

We have the law here..dont know if they've done any studies on if it's curbed anything. Pretty crappy law if you're a law-abiding citizen and want to get more than one handgun per month. :(

I never have enough cash to afford more than one handgun a month, so it hasnt really affected me.

And as usual there is already a law on the books to prevent this. These kinds of purchases are already reported to ATF.

There are very few firearms laws that could be written that are not already on the books in one form or another and if they were all enforced and punished, we probably wouldn't have these problems.

What these people don't understand is that you actually have to ENFORCE the law, not just make more of them.

Well that's not true. Some of them DO understand it, and we need to understand that for those people these things are not about controlling guns, but controlling their "subjects".

I usually point out that purchasing more than one handgun within a weeks time already requires the dealer to submit that info to the BATFE. If they aren't doing their job, then that isn't my problem.

My father actually had the BATFE call him after buying 4 handguns at one time. They were actually 1911 90% frames, not exactly real handguns, at least not yet. He told the agent that he (and his sons) like to build their own 1911's as a hobby. After that he had a nice chat with the agent for a few minutes and never heard about it again.

Why argue against it? Get them to explain their position and back it up with facts. Watch them stare at you blankly or skirt the question. Then ask them which other rights they want restricted and doled out to them.

I too believe that a consumer should have the ability to purchase what they want when they want. A few years ago when 1 handgun every 30 days was implemented, I tried to follow the law but after the 5th month, I couldn't afford it...then I guess I had to break the law but not buying any more guns that year :scrutiny: In short, the law blows :banghead:

It's a law that only the law-abiding will obey.

Criminals do not obey laws. Criminals who ignore laws relating to theft, assault, and murder are certainly not going to pay attention to a minor law like this, especially since felons are already breaking the law by possessing and illegally carrying said illegally owned firearms.

Kinda hard to buy a collection of handguns from out of state to add to your own collection if you can only buy one a month.

Also, this "one gun a month" scheme ought to at least make some sportsmen wise up about the fact the anti-gun laws can touch them too. I know several members of Ducks Unlimited and other groups who have won more than one gun at a raffle. This scheme could prevent them from doing that anymore.

one "free speach" a month

you can only criticize your government one time a month.
you can only buy one *free* newspaper a month.
you can only exercise your religion on first sunday of every month.
you can only have one day a month when gov can't quarter soldiers in your home.
you can be protected against unreasonable searches and seizures only on the second monday of every month.
you can remain silent and have the right to fair trial by jurry, on the second wednesday of every month.
you can only be informed of accusations against you and confront your accused, on the last thursday of every month.
cruel and unusual punishment cannot be applied on third saturday of every month. all other days...

one handgun a month is a total BS. and is totally unconstitutional!

I think it is a genius idea !!

If I had bought one gun a month since I turned 18 , I would now have over 1200 firearms . Is it like a fruit basket club or a book club ? Where do I sign up ?

Yep, it's an attempt in reducing straw purchases. I thought we had a law on straw purchases already. Another ineffective law.... all part of the incremental approach to eventually outlawing handgun ownership.... first you have to turn in your guns for destruction, then they start records checks of the dealer's records, house to house searches follow. Sounds pretty Nazi to me. Sounds like a darn good reason not to buy a gun where the 4473 is completed. The anti's would say.... you're crazy, the "law" authorizes no such search and seizure. Just the NRA trying to whip up your emotions on things that will not happen in our country..... of course, incrementalism. At some point it is just too late to fight back without actually shooting. Most are not ready to fight to save a gun until it's too late.

All kidding aside, here is the argument against limiting firearm purchases:

Because nobody has the right to tell me what I can't spend my money on or to limit my options.

Freedom, it's a wonderful thing.

Sistema1927

Well said Sistema1927,

When I was a kid living in Poland, we had stamps on EVERYTHING. I'm not kidding, government issued stamps on: food, alcohol, gas. You could only buy what gov said you can, and only as much as they let you!

You know, socialism, making everyone equal. Worked wonders! My parents stood in line for 36 hours to buy meat, because gov purpously created shortages, to keep people from wondering around too much.

I'm in the USA for last 9 years and I thank God everyday for it!

Remember, next logical step from liberalism is communism!

Sir, you have my admiration. I think that it's just awesome that the world's oldest man is still active in the shooting fraternity. ;)
