PA anti-gun Gov. Ed Rendell is once again pushing for changes to limit handgun sales to one a month. I fear PA will soon go the way of the other liberal NE states. In the Philly suburbs we used to have Republicans, now we have rich guilty liberals, ugh.

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/local/20070327_Rendell_proposes_slew_of_changes.html

He tied his term-limit proposal to what he considered the urgent need for gun-control legislation.

His voice rising, his fist pounding the dais, Rendell said that if lawmakers were true "citizen soldiers," Pennsylvania might finally be able to enact a law halting straw purchases of handguns.

Speaking on a day when Philadelphia recorded its third gun killing in 24 hours, Rendell said that if lawmakers' terms were limited, they might be less fearful of the gun lobby and more likely to support a long-stalled proposal to limit handgun purchases to one a month.

"That law should be passed," Rendell said. "No one who is sane and rational would vote against one handgun a month."

I plan on writing him a letter. I was contemplating what to say, as its obvious he doesnt have my vote, nor does he expecta republican to vote for him. I am going to let him know that gun owners like myself would back gun legislation if it was designed to target the criminals rather than a broad reaching useless law (written more eloquently of course). Maybe he will listen, but its doubtful I will have any impact on a Democrat...its frustrating writing letters to people who dont expect or feel like they need my vote.

fight it. we were able to beat it even in liberal CT this year because enough people showed up and opposed it in public.

in any case, in the unlikely event that it does get support, it can be watered down by inserting language that exempts concealed weapons permit holders.

Dayam.... that story was all over News Flash Radio last week.

Face it... when George Soros is funding a campaign, there will be only ONE outcome.... COMMUNISM!!!!

I am so tired of hearing politicians using the phrase "gun control" instead of "crime control" as they should.

I'm waiting for the ammo limits next.

California passed a one-hand-gun-a-month law some time ago. Crime continues to occur there. Guns continue to be used in crime, are stolen from their owners, and are purchased in straw purchases.

California has a centralized handgun registry that presumably can flag dealers if someone is buying more than one handgun a month, even if they try to buy from different dealers. In most other states, no such registry exists (nor should it exist), and a buyer could simply go from gun shop to gun shop making purchases.

People tend to forget that criminals tend not to acquire their guns through legal means. They also forget that all purchases of multiple handguns from the same dealer (which is evidently what a lot of the antis worry about) within a 5-day period require that the dealer notify the ATF and local police by means of a specific form.

Man, I'm glad I don't live in PA. I don't think I could afford to buy one gun a month.

But seriously: :fire:

As others have said I wish I could afford 1 gun a month. It will be interesting to see what the Dem controlled house and senate does about this.

I thing we need to push for "One Bill A Month" to curb out of control "Assault" legislation.

What I don't get is that people (antis) say that this will curb illegal gun sales. Reguardless of the fact that most illegal gun sales probably come from stolen guns, isn't there a way to do this that is less invasive on the average citizen. You allready submit to a background check when you buy a gun, how about when a person gets 5 or 6 checks run in a week, the ATF or FBI checks up on them. If the person lives in a $500,000 home, has 3 gun safes, and is a well known compitition shooter, odds are he isn't selling the guns on the street. However, if the person lives in a duplex, drives a dark tinted car, and is well known on the streets, he might be worth investigating.

I would imagine that less than 5% of people buying guns, buy more than 1 a month. Of that 5% it would simple to tell who had a habit of buying multiple guns. Of those few, it would only take a minor, non-invasive, investigation to determine who was a wealthy collector/shooter, and who was likely to be selling the guns illegaly.

There, I just solved the problem and reduced the harassing of innocent people to less than approx. 1%. See how easy it is?

The ATF already investigates anyone who buys more than one handgun in the period of one week.

Oh, and I've thought of an interesting counter to the argument that guns cause crime.

"Bad Laws: The leading cause of all crimes world-wide."

I've been of legal age for 20 years, that means that under this law I could have 240 hand guns by now. How is this anything but a red herring?

He's just advocating more pollution and gas consumption. If I want to buy 2 guns (total), I now have to drive to the gun shop twice.

Edward "Pennsavania" Rendell is nothing more than a gravely-voiced elitist Philadelphia gangster riding high off his own corruption. He has absolutely no idea what the will or wants of the prople are, he cares only for his own selfish desires. I hear he treats his PSP bodyguards like crap, too.
