One week till Ks. opener...

In a "triumph of Hope over Experience", I went up and bought my deer tags last week.
Rifle season starts next Wednesday and I will be taking out an old Winchester 94 carbine in 32 Special for my hunting rifle as a tribute to a late cousin who loaned me his my first season of hunting on my own. That was many, many, etc. years ago and, while I didn't get a deer then, maybe this year I will.
Heck, if the Cubs can win the World Series maybe I can get a buck...?

Good luck. Not sure if I'll be out opening day or not. Definitely will be on the weekends. I got a doe early in the two day anterless only early season. Still trying for my first bow kill. Had a possibility last weekend but something spooked them while I was waiting for a better shot. I'm hunting in Linn County. Where are you hunting?

Jefferson County is nice ground for hunting. I was looking there when I found my Linn county spot. I have a nephew who hunts several hundred acres in either Jefferson or Leavenworth county. I'm not sure which. He gets several every year including one on his wall that scores 170+.

I haven't seen much in our area of the county, that EHD outbreak really took it's toll a few years back. Bumped a couple bedded does this afternoon while looking over where I can hunt next door. Also saw what might have been a young buck. I haven't punched a buck tag in 10 years, guess we'll see how it goes.
